I need some quick help in advance of my next session - I'm running "Life's Bazaar" the first installment of the Dungeon Magazine adventure path.

Some magical items in an abandoned gnome enclave are tainted with a magical disease called the Vanishing. It's a contact disease which, unless a save is made, reduces a person's Charisma causing them to become translucent. If their Charisma reaches zero, they fade into nothingness and die.

My question is this - if a PC picks up an infected magic item but succeeds on her save (resisting the disease), is she now free to touch and use the item without risk of contracting the disease, or would she need to make a new save each time she touches the item? I have a similar question for those who do get the disease from an item, but then are cured through remove disease or some such spell.

Finally, what about someone who is either cured or repels the disease on one item but then touches another item also tainted with the disease? In this case I'd guess they need to make another save, but do others agree?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

My thoughts:

Most diseases require 2 consecutive saves to be "cured". See the DMG.

Once you have the disease, repeated exposure does not make you "more" diseased... either you have it or you don't... if you have the disease, you can handle the item all you want and it doesn't get worse.

I would assume that you need to "cure disease" the item in order for it to be safe.
