Animal Companion and a Familiar? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Probably a pretty simple question, but one that I need confirmation on.

Can a character have a familiar and animal companion? Say a lvl 6 Ranger/lvl 1 wizard?

I'm just curious as I cannot find anything in the PHB/DMG saying that you can't, although I don't think I've ever come across this before..

However there are no rules about multiple animal companions from multiple classes.

Since an Animal companion is not a familiar I would say yes.
