Read the book.

Assuming you wont, because you havent: Yes, he can. It's right in the druid section. At 10th level, the druid can have a polar bear as an animal companion.

Excuse me for being so slow, but i still dont get it. In my PHB it says that it can be any animal the druid has befrended. So if I have a baby polar bear with HD 1 , wouldnt it be possible ?

You'd have to drop all their stats/abilities to match the new HD, but i dont see why not. Remember, though, the druid has to be familiar with the animal, which would mean the druid would have to live near a region with polar bears. I'm not sure if that matters for your setting, but it does for some.

Strictly speaking, a Polar Bear is a Polar Bear.

You could, of course, take the stats for, say, a badger and call it a "Baby Polar Bear" if you wanted, but that's strictly the realm of house rules.

In my PHB it says that it can be any animal the druid has befrended.Uh, exactly where does it say "any animal that the druid has befriended"? Animal companions have specific mechanics and power levels associated with them (DMG pg 35,36).

As previous posters point out, that doesn't stop you statting out a "baby polar bear", but if you're new you might want to play with the animals given before trying your hand at creating new ones.
