The enemy force has among its leaders a powerful wizard who seems evenly matched spell for spell by the archmage who is one of the defenders' rulers yet seems unusually hard to kill even when careful spell preparations are done. Situation: The players are approached by the Lord Wizard's assistant, Nestor (whom they know) who tells them that he has a problem he needs help with. A hysterical man approached him claiming to be a servant to one of the city's wizards (one they know as well, a cowardly but cunning mage called Puntekah) who apparently summoned something horrible that trashed the house and drove both the wizard and his servant fleeing into the night. He would appreciate them coming to help investigate the situation--ideally before the Lord Wizard finds out about it. Adventure I want the adventure to consist of three parts--one where they investigate and discover what Puntekah summoned and why. (that he was trying to summon something to steal the lich's phylactery--he had gained information that this is in fact what the enemy wizard really is) Two where they track down the summoned creature which is out of control and put a stop to it somehow. (I'm not sure yet what it should be) Three where they possibly figure out another way to take out the lich without having to fight it directly. |

As this shorten down the adventure greatly. Finding out that the BBEG is a lich, should be the goal of the session. And the next adventure can be figureing out another way to take out the lich without having to fight it directly. Thats what I would do anyway.. But if its not a long running thing I`d give away both.. |

(think perhaps of the first Star Wars movie and the Death Star and Grand Moff Tarkin--or perhaps Saruman in The Two Towers--very important, very very dangerous but this would not be the climax of the campaign) I'd also like a good monster to have been summoned, I seriously can't think of anything other than a slithering tracker and while I am searching the MM and stuff I'm sure someone might have some cool idea--something the players can have a good but interesting chase after, a minor but serious havoc it creates in the city and an ultimate fight to capture/kill it. |

With the base creature as an animal that is common in the area allowing it to be mistaken for a normal animal, which in turn allows it too get close to the city and its inhabitants and finally cause chaos. They also have damage resistance and resistance to heat and cold. I'm assuming that your players probably have some type of magic weapons at their disposal. A fiendish creature that is easily mistaken for a normal one may also make it harder to track and find. hopefully your players may find it an interesting plot twist to find the summone creature as something mundane and taken for granted. This is just an idea disregard it if it doesn't fit your need and good luck. |
