Another 'alignment pondering' on a PC [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-19-04, 02:54 AM This particular PC is something of a 'splinter faction' of Wee Jas', his beliefs are the following:

Death is an inherent part of the cycle of life

People who die without repenting/atoning their crimes, but are basicly good people, are sent to purgatory

If someone is raised as undead and sent to do good works by their raiser (IE in this case, him), they can gain redemption and ascend to the higher realms.

He overall sees himself as good, after all he's saving souls...the thing is that D&D takes the 'undead = evil' standpoint, but it also makes one wonder how a skeletal warrior with no intelligence at all can be evil...negative energy isnt INHERENTLY evil, a lot of good has come of inflict moderates ^_^. Just wanting thoughts on alignment.

08-19-04, 03:00 AM Interesting. Would he be cool with killing a buncha of people who aren't living life to the fullest and then having their skeletons give puppies to orphans in order to "elevate their souls" in his view?

If so, I like this guy already! ;)

08-19-04, 03:10 AM no, he generally waits for people to die of natural causes. or unnatural, like someone the party killed for whatever reason. He's not some sort of 'perfection in undeath' sort of thing, the living can hand out puppies very well on their own.

08-19-04, 04:54 PM Not only are undead not necessarily evil, I have issues with this concept of "redemption via good acts committed by your corpse"

If you animate someone's corpse, you are not animating THEM, their soul, spirit, favorite color, what-have-you.
You are animating an alignment-neutral piece of meat. How that piece of meat conducts its carnal affairs (sorry, couldn't stop that one, it just came out) reflects on you, that is, the animator. The original tennant has moved on.
