| silent death07-23-03, 11:42 PM | ok, i have a PC that does not like to do stuff unless you dangle money or a magic item in front of his face. his real life personality is like this too. like in our last session, he and is "party"(he does not like to be in a party either.his charactor grew up in a forest by himself) was summoned by the king to be mercenaries for a little while, and he did not wanna go! ofcorse, he did not know he would be hired, but he did not wanna go with the knight that delivered the message.what should i do to make him do more stuff, short of killing his charactor and giving him a ton of gold(he already has about 15,000 in gold?) |

| Habronicus07-24-03, 12:30 AM | Talk to the player and ask him to be more cooperative. Remind him that RPG's are supposed to be fun to *all* involved and he should play his part in that. If he still refuses, then he's a bad player, period, and you should ban him from playing. No more questions asked. I know it's tough to be rough (or is it the other way around?) but most GMs really have no other choice on these matters. |
| silent death07-24-03, 12:40 AM | the bad thing is, the player is my best friend. the group consists of him, my other best friend and my 10 year old cousin...so it is not like i have a lot of people playin with me.... |
| thalious07-24-03, 12:42 AM | Like said before, talk with the player about this try to turn them around. You could charm the PC, but such methods grow old fast. Short of constant charms, payouts, etc, you might just have to cut the player loose and move on. |
| thalious07-24-03, 12:44 AM | In light of your latest post. If the guy is your best friend, whack him on the side of the head and tell him to take the pine cone out his hind end. FUN is the bottomline. If you pal does not want to play D&D then he should be honest to say so rather than act like an the other name for a Mule. |
| Habronicus07-24-03, 03:19 AM | Yes, it does sound like he just wants to hang out with his friends. If that's the case, he should be honest about not wanting to dedicate to the game. If he doesn't understand that RPG's are supposed to be played in cooperation, then you either put up with bad roleplaying or kick him out. Two players is still a good number, don't worry, and solo adventures (one player and one GM) are not unheard of. |
