HI

What do you think is the best way to set out the adventures, do you have one long story, or a bunch of random adventures? What do you think the best thing to do is?

I don't think there is a "best" between the two, per se.

A lot will depend on what your group dynamics are.

There is no "best" way.

Separate, seemingly random adventures are defintiely old school. This is the way most D&D players played back in the 80s. This has advantages for casual gamers (The Beer & Pretzels crowd) since it doesn't affect any story arc if a player can't make it.

Overlying storylines with in depth roleplaying is the other end of the spectrum, and in my experience, seems to be the "new" way to play. This has advantages of more opportunities to roleplay and experience your character fully. Of course, it requires dedicated players in order to keep the storyline together.

Don't get me wrong, I'm DMing an old school campaign and I love it.

Have a central theme with subplots and offshoots.
