I'm thinking of slowly introducing an "Antiparty" for my PC's to face. I plan on it being one of their first challanges once they reach level 20.

First off, suggestions as to what to include in the party.

PC Party:
~Cleric (Healer, by level 20 will have levels in class simial to Radiant Servant of Pelor)
~Scout (all about archery and everything, maybe no PrC to boost skirmish bonuses)
~Favored Soul (going Storm Lord, so very lightning focused)
~Warmage (will be a "Adamantine Adept"; similar to Green Star Adept PrC with different base metal)
~Ninja (not really sure on a progression, but he's all about the stealth stuff; wishes Assassin was available in a good variety; may be available if I search these boards long enough for him)
~Monk (loves Flurry of Blows, going to become a Tattoo monk)

I'm thinking of a party sorta like this: (in parenthesis are listed the PC followed by whether the antiparty member is supposed to be an "equal" or an "opposite" to)

Dread Necromancer (Cleric; Opposite)
Assassin (Scout; Equal via Archery, Opposite via "generic evilness")
Sword-n-Shield Fighter (Favored Soul; some elemental affinity to make him Opposite)
Spellsword (Warmage; Equal)
Eidolon (Ninja; Opposite sorta)
Monk/Tempest (Monk; Equal)

So, we've got our next session on Friday night (on into Saturday morning). During that session they will encounter a Druid enemey (at the end of the Sunless Citadel, if that means anything) I have 6 party members, the encounter is for 4 PCs. Mine will be level 2 at the start of this fight. (4 party members would be well into level 3, but mine are dividng the EXP 6 ways, not 4, so they will all be level 2 at the start of it)

If I were to add one of the "antiparty" members to the encounter, which would be most likely to be found with an outcast Druid? (which one can I go ahead and introduce now?)

I plan on introducing them over time, and possibly having 2 of them engage the PCs at once. (thus, those 2 now have a reason to unite: a common enemey)

Over time, the PCs will fight all 6, and will eventually have to fight all 6 at once as an "all-or-nothing" fight.

Has anyone ever used an "antiparty"?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd suggest introducing them early - start them out as a rival NPC group and have them go bad over several adventures, or have them turn on the PCs at a crucial moment. Make it personal, or they'll just be another bunch of bad guys.

The part-time DM in my group (we trade off) is using an anti-party.

Just make sure you make them like any other NPC (not like some über-half-god thing).

My DM made them with crazy ass stats (I hit the cleric with a Touch of Idiocy and rolled all 6's. She continued casting third level spells. As a human with no magic items.)

First- there is a LG Exalted Prestige Class in The Book of Exalted Deeds (can't remember the name right now) that is, in essence, a Good Assassin. Requires Exalted Status, though.

Second- Milandros has a good idea about the rival NPC thing. Have them be another band of adventurers, doing some of the same missions as the PCs. The PCs could meet them and then hear tales of them as they complete their adventures. They could be hired to bring back the same items as the PCs, and then beat them to it. Soon, it will get personal between the two groups... noone likes getting showed up. or, you can read the Order of The stick, they have a good antiparty... make the NPCs just like all of your PCs (exact same classes, stats, etc.) only give them Gotees. :P

It will be personal. I'm tempted to make some of them (right now thinking Monk/Tempest and Spellsword) more of a "friendly rival". Maybe the monks spar, and when the good one wins (which would be the case, because of story; and even if he doesn't win at first, he WILL win the "last" round) the other one thinks it is unfair and goes all dark and brooding to get revenge for the one who stole his glory.

So some will be out to get the good guy (Dread Necromancer and Assassin, for example) and the others will be "opponents who could have been friends who went bad" (Spellsword or Monk/Tempest, for example)

If anything, they will either be the same level as the PCs (all level 20) or around one level higher. (The Eidolon has a +1 CR from his template that he HAS to have, so I may make all of them +1 CR, or just one or two of them) Either way, the Antiparty will be a group of level 20's, maybe level 21's, but probably not even as much as ALL of them being 21. More or less equal in the FINAL encounter.

Now, earlier on, they will encounter the party before it becomes a party, so they will be tougher to survive against the party. (it will become the party's goal to gain strength and eventually "overthrow" them)

Don't have Book of Exalted Deeds. It and its brother (BoVD) are two I plan to pick up mid-campaign. (right now there are others our group would like to have and don't have, and with new one's like MMIV and PHBII coming out, we're behind)

That is something to look into, though. (maybe before he gets too high of a level, so he can still get it)

Gotees..... Hmm..... *scratches gotee* (kidding, no gotee here)

I could do that. Maybe have the Assassin be a goodguy who is trying to retrieve something the party acquires. (Forge of Fury is up soon, he could be a mercenary hired to retrieve some swords or stuff, and the PCs find it first, so he would then have a reason to hunt them down and try and take it) He could become an Assassin after failing to beat them at getting stuff several times. Maybe he makes it a personal task to execute them

I am going to be utilizing a counter-party in the future, depending on who among those upcoming villains actually pulls off his/her escape plan.

After about four missions and who-knows-how-many encounters, I figure the more motivated and resourceful among those villains who escaped will meet up somewhere. I plan to have their existence revealed during a mission where the party finds itself face-to-face with their known enemies in a group.

After that, the counter-party will make it their mission to avenge their past losses.

I call them a counter-party, rather than anti-party because they are all unique creatures, not necessarily opposites to the party in any attribute but alignment.

I can see using other adventurers, but a full-fledged Mirror party could be a really nasty encounter at that point in the game. Whoever gets the higher initiative will win completely.

About the guy that wants to be a good aligned assassin-

The evil requirement seems to be primarily fluff in my opinion, I see no reason why a ninja clan would be opposed to training its members in some kind of assasin's arts. You could always mod the PRC a little bit to fit. Then again most real ninja would probably be LN (being loyal to their clan as opposed to any moral beliefs).

As for the antiparty, you could have them start good and become evil as already stated, or use them as the BBEG(s) for the campaign.

I personally do like the order of the stick approach of using exact clones of the party with minor differences as the antiparty.

As for wich would be with the druid, I dont think really any of them would, wichever would be most likely tho share the druid's views, its really a character personality thing as opposed to a rulebook thing.

I was just asking that, flavor wise, which would YOU put with the druid. And maybe why.

Seeing as how the Druid is underground, I'm thinking of revealing the Eidolon first. Being a ghost, he can become incorpereal and evade the PCs. (easier for the low level returing boss to escape; he just becomes incorpereal)

There are very few things as deadly for a party to face as a party that mirrors them exactly. Give them the same stats and gear as the PCs and watch out!

It's great to see the look on a player's face when he or she realizes that the enemy they are squaring off against is precisely as deadly as they are...

I worked a rival party angle once, and it worked out well.

I made the rival party based off the original classes and stuff of the real party, but then had them go on their own progression so by the end, they weren't quite 'opposites' but wound up being an excellet match for one another.

As for their interaction, about every 3rd or 4th significant quest the party went on, the rival party was involved somehow. Like for one, the party was highered to inflitrate a bandit camp and steal back a family heirloom (necklace) for a wealthy merchant. The rival party was there to steal the necklace for a mercantile rival of the wealthy merchant. It wound up that the party and rival party actually worked together to clear out most of the bandits before the rival party turned on them and got away with the necklace.

By the end of the campaign, the PCs had both great respect and a significant amount of disdain for the rival party, and one of the rival party became a cohort of one of the PCs after it was all said and done.

You should definitely give them goatees.

On idea would be to have the party have the same functional roles as the party, but give them a "theme." For example, their fighter could be replaced by a psychic warrior, their wizard by a psion, their rogue could be an elocator, their monk could also be a Fist of Zuoken, and their archer a soulbow, etc, for a "psionically themed" opposition party.

Or, to be really nasty, maybe a Thayan party, of Red Wizards, a Thayan Knight (maybe Frenzied Berserker too? ), a Cleric of Bane or something, etc, all to fit the Thayan theme.

Or maybe you could have them all be "misbegottens" of some sort -- tieflings, half-dragons, mongrelfolk, shifters, etc. -- all having different ancestries, but bound together by the way their heritage alienates them from more "pureblooded" species of the world.

I'm creating a party that fills the same "slot" in the party, but has a fundamental difference.

Scout = Archer with as many arrows as possible.
Assassin= Archer with fewer arrows and higher accuracy

Ninja= Stealth
Eidolon= Stealth, but no longer living

Cleric= Healer of Life
Dread Necromancer= Controller of Undead

That kinda thing is what got me going. Now I'm just trying to find a way to get a good "Sword-n-Shield" fighter to have an elemental affinity. (should I give him lots of equipment that focuses towards that element, or work on getting him a prestige class, or some sort of template, or what?)

An interresting idea is a CG party, in competition with the PCs for similar missions, sometimes on the same missions. The party leader is a charismatic and popular bard, composing song about his own feats, sometimes making up some stories, and sometimes taking PCs' feats as his own. However, he is more annoying that something else. This CG party should also have a chick: a pretty girl who likes attempting to seduce the PCs (all of them, of specifically one of them), but she's the bard's girlfriend.

A bit later, a beautiful girl joins the party, either as an NPC or DMPC. The party keep on meeting the CG party, but the two girls never happen to meet each other. Until one time, both party run into each other, and both girls begin to insult each other, accusing each other to steal their territory. They finally adopt their true form: one is a Blue Dragon, the other one a Red Dragon. Their goal: there is a game amongst chromatic dragons, consisting on helping adventurers becoming heroes, and then eating said heroes. The winner is the one who eat the most popular hero...

That is so well thought out that it scares me.....

Too bad I'm looking for a "evil npc" "antiparty" or I'd use that in a heartbeat. (I need something that will show up as a final fight later on, with PCs getting to fight their "rivals", so to speak)

Well you could always make him a genasi (elemental planes touched) or even a full fledged elemental creature (a salamander maybe?). No reason you couldn't also add elemental style equipment or even an elemental prestige on top of that. Any combination there of should work.
