| GnG_DM05-02-07, 07:29 PM | Hello! I've just run A Dark and Stormy Knight for my players using D&D for Dummies pre-gen characters (Regdar, Tiann, Wellyn), and my players loved it! However, I'm still not too confident on my adventure-creation skills, so I'm looking for pre-written adventures/modules that is good for 2nd-level characters, and one that would hopefully be long enough to get them to level 5 or 6. I know there are free adventures in the site, but unless I'm mistaken, they're mostly one-shot type of adventures --- I'm looking for one that would have a continuity-between-adventures, overarching campaign sort of feel. Also, is there a pre-generated town (complete with a priest, blacksmith, inn, etc.) that I can put in my game? Just for the players to go to an rest/sell loot/interact with peasants for now. PDF format is best for me (easy to buy, download, and play), but I can get physical copies if that book/material is really good. Suggestions please! |
| Lazzmaniandevil05-02-07, 07:39 PM | Barrow of the forgotten king ? |
| Board_Rider05-02-07, 08:53 PM | Savage Tide or Shackled City are great adventure paths. |
| SaveRaysBoxers05-02-07, 09:06 PM | Best adventure ever written: Red Hand of Doom. Seriously, it is amazing. It would also be a great way to LEARN how to make good adventures, because the way it organizes everything is easy to mimic and make your own adventures that are good. |
| KiloTheRogueElf05-02-07, 10:33 PM | I agree. Red hand of doom is the BEST! Love that game i've dm'd it twice. but not all the way through. |
| runestar05-02-07, 11:23 PM | Red hand of doom? Isn't that for 6th lv PCs? Are you thinking about hand of grumsh or something?:P |
| StevenO05-03-07, 12:24 AM | I would have recommended Dungeon Magazine as a great source for adventures. However they have recently had their license expire and will quit printing after another three issues. |
| graddlin05-03-07, 12:31 AM | The Coin Trillogy from the Kingdoms of Kalamar Campaign Setting. I have never used pre-made adventures up until I picked up that fantastic set of adventures! However, I shall most likely stick to making my own from now on. That was just a detour. Take care, friend. |

But I wouldn't bless it with the title "Best adventure EVER written" Maybe it could contend for "Best modern era adventure written" though.... Seriously though, Red Hand is good enough that, with a bit of tweaking, you could actualy use it as the setting right from 1st level. It'll keep you fighting everything from hobgoblins all the way up to aspects of Tiamat & a few decent NPC bosses as well along the way. And then, on the way back to town.... Your heros can find themselves walking into Expidition to Castle Ravenloft. :) The mists close in around them and they find themselves aproaching an unfamiliar village..... |
| GnG_DM05-03-07, 04:57 AM | Thanks for the suggestions! Isn't RHoD for 3E and not 3.5E? I'm confused. with a bit of tweaking, you could actualy use it as the setting right from 1st level. Can you expound a bit more on how I can use it from level 1 (although my PCs are level 2 now)? I'm a new DM so being specific would be very much appreciated. |
| Clearly_Toughpick05-03-07, 01:18 PM | [QUOTE=GnG_DM;12285411]Thanks for the suggestions! Isn't RHoD for 3E and not 3.5E? I'm confused. QUOTE] Definitely 3.5. I think it would take a lot of work on your part to design adventures for it to take your PCs to L5. However, you might consider Barrow of the Forgotten King, leading on to Sons of Gruumsh (a Forgotten Realms adventure) and then RHoD. I've not tried it, but quite a few on these boards have successfully gone from SoG to RHoD. Another possible tie-in to SoG (but I'm not sure about then going on to RHoD) is to use Mysteries of the Moonsea. It's 160 pages of adventures in that particular part of the Forgotten Realms designed to take PCs from L1 to L18 (or is it 16?). And SoG is set in that area too. It's a pretty gritty environment for your PCs to make a living in though: the predominant alignment of all the cities around the Moonsea is evil, and life aint easy for an adventurer, especially one who likes to flash his cash. However, I think that just adds to the excitement of the campaign. |
| GnG_DM05-05-07, 01:19 AM | Looking at Barrow, it seems like it is interesting enough to buy. Thanks for the recommendations! At least I now have a place to start and get my group's feet wet with D&D. |
| WagnerSika05-05-07, 02:53 AM | If you want fleshed out towns go to the Wizards site and look in the previous edition downloads. There are tons of free stuff for Fogotten Realms and 95% of them is fluff so you don't need to worry about conversion. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads |
| Sunic_Flames05-05-07, 02:26 PM | Having recently obtained RHoD myself and more or less finished giving it the once over I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else that suggested it, although since it's meant to start around 5-6 some adaptation would be required... if nothing else you can get the PCs to like the area in the meantime so they'll care about it when the stuff hits the fan later and want to protect it. Only problem I have with it is even if I found a DM to run it for me, it wouldn't be as fun since I know what happens already. Meh. |
| GnG_DM05-05-07, 10:19 PM | Looking at the 'catalogue' for D&D material, I see there are a few 3E adventures published like the Sunless Citadel. Has anyone run this? How hard would it be to convert/modify it to 3.5E? |
| CTHUHLU_THE_GROOVY05-06-07, 02:38 AM | The sunless citadel, and other 3.0 adventures require very little conversion I've found. No problems spring to mind, but be sure to review. Sunless citadel is a bit long, and follows a sort of 1e/2e delve model, but is a good adventure. |
| GnG_DM05-09-07, 03:15 AM | I 'extracted' the info from the Products page of this website, and found the following list of adventures: Fortress of the Yuan-ti (Sept 09) Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk (Aug 07) The Sinister Spire (June 07) -------------------------- Expedition to the Demonweb Pits Barrow of the Forgotten King Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde, The Scourge of the Howling Horde Expedition to Castle Ravenloft Fantastic Locations: Dragondown Grotto Fantastic Locations: Fields of Ruin Red Hand of Doom -------------------------- Bastion of Broken Souls [3E] Lord of the Iron Fortress [3E] Deep Horizon [3E] Heart of Nightfang Spire [3E] Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil [3E] Standing Stone, The [3E] Speaker in Dreams, The [3E] Forge of Fury, The [3E] Sunless Citadel, The [3E] Can anyone tell me what levels these adventures 'start' at and what levels the PCs are expected to be at when they finish the adventure? Thanks! |
