I'm going to assume that you do use traps - just want a new idea. I would suggest setting one up the same way as your "standard" trap - then make it so that if the group does what they normally do - they get whacked. Example: Big bad guy runs around corner with players hot on his trail. They chase him around the corner only to see him dart down the end of a long hallway. Of course the players are assuming some sort of boobie trap (especially if same guy/group of guys has done a similar thing). They proceed slowly. However - instead of your standard pit trap/ falling granite block etc. - there creeping whatzit coming up through their boots that wouldn't even have effected them if they had just run through. Fun stuff to throw your players for a loop. However - if you don't do a lot of traps do the same situation except have a combo of pit traps / arrow loops lining the walls (people on other side) / murder holes (things dropped on their heads through holes in the ceiling). For inspiration watch Indiana Jones - it would be pretty sweet to run away from a giant boulder.

The double trap is always a good one. Let the rogue find a trap without searching, meaning make it obvious that one is there. This trap, of course, is there so that they wont think of searching for the real trap which gets them while disarming the decoy.

Time delay traps. The air in the dungeon has some toxic chemical in it and after being in there for a few hours they are all taking temporary stat losses. Don't let them know why, let them figure it out. The Book of Vile Darkness has some great poisons and chemicals in it that can be used for this very purpose. (pages 41-45 or so, I think)

KENDER Birthday party. I sent a party into a castle only to discover a giant cake, in a massve banquet hall, that said happy birthday. As they were looking at the cake 400 Kender came in and happily greeted the party to wish them a happy birthday. If you don't know; kender are horrible cleptomaniacs, consequently my players knew this. The mage cast a fireball, targetting himself. The cleric melded with stone. The other wizard flew into a ceiling corner and put up a firewall. The fighter and the rogue were picked clean. AAAAh, I was nice and let them torch the place and loot the kender for their items, but ti could be a great plot twist. Send the party looking for the evil mastermind of this plan.....

I designed a special trap for the very furst 'dungeon' I ever made. That was about 24 years ago now and it has always been a blast to use.

The group finds a treasure roon with bars of gold in it. Guarding the treasure are an equal number of 'skeletons'. Each bar of gold contains a small bloodstone. Each Skeleton wears a brass ring set with a small bloodstone. When a Skeleton is 'killed' it slowly regenerates until at full HPs and begins to track the PCs to retrieve a single bar of gold.

The trap is that the stone in each ring is linked to a stone in a single bar of gold. So no matter where the gold goes, the skeletons follow. If a PC finds and wears one of the rings they must make fort saves to not lose Con. When Con hits 0, the PC dies and eventually revives as a new skeleton wearing the clothing and using the weapons the PC was burried with. This can be very disconcerting for the rest of the party...

So the players will be plagued with this army of undead that never seems to go away so long as they keep the gold bars. If a bar is melted and the stone removed, the skeleton will just chase the stone.

It has other ramifications too. If they sell the gold bars the skeletons attack the buyer. This should give the PCs a not so good name in places where they sell their booty.

I hope this is at least half way coherent, it's a little late now...

...Or maybe here. Or, perhaps, here (http://boards1.wizards.com/search.php?searchid=72045). :)

And then there's Evandar_TAybara's Raiders of the Lost ARRGGHHH! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=4380313)

Or one of my favorites (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=4474114). ;)

yeah i think there needs to be a few more stickey's on this forum. one especialy for traps. i see something posted allmost every few days reguarding this, when if you did a search you would come up with 3-4 search pages of results. Anyone know a mod that can convince them that this is a good idea?
