Just trying to get a scope of what certain things should cost, so I can make nifty lists for them to check out. If anybody knows of a book with this info, I'd be much appreciative!! I checked Tome and Blood... nothing..... |

It has a comprehensive look at just about every spin you can put on the traditional magic system as it stands in D&D... and, among other things (like a Critical Hits Placement table for damage dealing spells), you can find a listing of spell components, arranged alphabetically. Obviously, the game has seen two editions since "2.5", and so some things won't be on the list (while other things on the list will have been made irrelevent); you'll just have to fill in the blanks, using what's there as guidelines. Interestingly enough, it also qualifies them as Rare, Common, and so on, which should be a good rule of thumb as far as deciding what size a settlement has to be before it has access to the ringfinger of a mummy. |
| Neonsamurai10-06-03, 08:08 AM | I use these: If no price is given in the spell description the cost per casting is 1sp per spell level. So a fireball costs 3 silver pieces per casting. You can still use eschew materials with these prices since the feat emulates components of up to 1gp pepr casting. If there's a price given in the spell description, use that one. |
| Shar Baenre10-06-03, 10:48 AM | Yeah... I didn't even think of Skills and Magic, and its right next to my 3rd edition stuff too... Duh. Thanks for the reminder. As far as the spell component pouch, I don't let them get away with that... You wouldn't buy a backpack already supplied with rations, now would you? I do suggest that my players have them though, cuz as the PHB says, they're watertight. Can't be having your components in your standard beltpouch when I have you falling off a galley, now can ya ;) |
| Shar Baenre10-06-03, 10:50 AM | oh, and btw Neon... I like your idea... I may use it too! Thanks |
| Wayward Son10-06-03, 11:06 AM | I think the Arms & Equipment Guide has a listing of the "unpriced" components with prices, as an option for DMs who don't like the SCP idea. If it wasn't there, then I'm thinking of a third-party book (I think it's from Mongoose Publishing, but I'm not sure), The Ultimate Equipment Guide, which also has a lot of neat extras you can use in a game. P.S.--I checked last night, and it was the Ultimate Equipment Guide from Mongoose Publishing. The A&EG doesn't get into it. |
| Shar Baenre10-06-03, 11:47 AM | speaking of which, what ever happened to the Arms and Equipment guide? Only one copy ever came to my town, and I wasn't the lucky one to get it... then I looked a few places online but found it to either be out of stock EVERYWHERE, or even found a few places that said it was out of print.... hmmmm. |

"Guys, we're almost out of rations. If we don't forage for food, we'll starve before we get to Bigcity!" is more interesting (and worthy of keeping track of) than ... "Guys, Sporklynn the Magnificent is running out of bat poop ..." |
