I may have a new player whose been thinking about trying one, and Ive wondered if anyone else has allowed them. And if so how are they balance wise. |
| Escef04-12-06, 10:03 PM | Alot of things like that in the pages of Dragon are neat ideas, but be careful, many of them have not been fully play-tested, use at your own risk. Don't get me wrong, most of the stuff in Dragon is written up with a good eye on balance, but some nasty gaffes have been known to slip through. My best experience with material in Dragon was the Flame Steward, a PrC designed by Monte Cook and published not long after 3e's release. Fun class, neat abilities, slightly powerful, but not broken by a long shot. |
| Zherog04-12-06, 10:57 PM | My wife has played the sorcerer variant I wrote for Dragon 330 - the sphere specialist. :) |
| HalasterAteMyHamster04-12-06, 11:14 PM | I let them in. For the most part, Class Acts variants are fine. You do need, however, to look out for Dragon PrCs and feats. They're generally well balanced, but there's much more potential for brokenness. |
| babysamurai04-13-06, 07:56 AM | I've been using an evil sect of Drow Chaos Monks...and man, my players are more scared/resentful/frustrated by the encounters that feature these bad-boys than any other creatures I've thrown up against them. ...and that includes a Dragon. |

Hmmmm... That reminds me of an idea about a Yakman Chaos Monk Ive been meaning to try..... :plotting: |
| bitswordmaker04-13-06, 08:02 PM | Normally, they are pretty good variant classes, and they can give a good spin on the game. I don't outlaw them, but I keep a good watch on them, to make sure this spin off isn't too powerful, or too weak. Keep the balance. |

Stink to default font setup. OP: I havent used many, but I would if I had more Dragon available. I also really like the alternates in UA. Furthermore, Im excited that the PHBII is going to have a lot of class variants, as well. More options = bad? I dont think so. |
| Krys_Tamar04-14-06, 11:59 PM | Alot of the "optional" classes (even in the Complete series) only have niche roles in my campaign world. For example, the Chaos Monk has to worship Dionysus. (I wanted to play on the fact that monks are often vintners, but usually have to be Lawful. Dionysus, one of the most Chaotic deities, as God of Wine, was the perfect deity to have Chaos Monks follow.) |
| KDSN04-15-06, 07:43 AM | The favorite I have used the Missile Mage, I cant remember which issue. I have used tons of the PrCs. As for the base in class acts, i have only used the halfling barbarian alternate levels, now it can change its size a little bit when raging. |

Somebody's using something I wrote in one of their games! http://www.members.shaw.ca/eogan/emoticons/banana.gif |
| KDSN04-16-06, 02:16 AM | Zherog--You're Welcome. It is a very neat article. It fits so well into my campaign. I am glad I made your day. |
| bhu04-17-06, 04:29 PM | A halfling obsessed player i have likes the article quite well too. |
| Zherog04-17-06, 08:37 PM | Well now I'm just all giddy. :D |
