| YRM02-25-04, 11:20 AM | Looks like Code Monkey put out a ton of new mods and whatnot for E-Tools. You can buy the 3.5 conversion and a ton of module and other book add ons as a pack, or buy stuff piecemeal. Anyone try this yet? How is the product? I used to use E-Tools as a DM, because I don't like to have to have a laptop with me, and E-Tools let me quickly generate and print out stat blocks or PC sheets for NPC encounters. Then, with 3.5 and all my new books, E-Tools became less useful. I'm wondering if anyone can comment on the new data packs? |
| Amurayi02-25-04, 11:40 AM | I love E-Tools. very handy tool to quickly generate NPC stats. Looking forward to the 3.5 expansion. |
| YRM02-25-04, 02:32 PM | You can buy those expansions now. Seriously. |
| igronimus02-25-04, 04:11 PM | You mean I have to buy a patch to fix a beta-test product sold as finished? That's frickin' absurd! Someone should file a class action lawsuit against WoTC so that when the lawyers are done taking their money, I get a dollar or two out of the thirty I spent on it. |
| Autosponge02-25-04, 05:35 PM | Th patches to make your e-tools 3.5 is free (SRD stuff), the additional splat book info and updated splat book info has an additional cost. |
| Peter Bergholtz02-25-04, 09:45 PM | Actually, I tink that the 3.5 dataset isnīt finished yet and that it will cost money upon completion. I might be wrong though. Better check it out och www.codemonkeypublishing.com I somehow have a feeling that when the release of 3.5 is near Mynex will se to it that we all will know about it. :) |
| edgelett02-25-04, 09:55 PM | The splatbook add ons (i.e defenders of the faith, tome & blood) cost money. The patches for e-tools are free (i.e patches to fix synergy bonus errors). You can buy the splatbook & other stuff at a discounted rate though - all splatbooks for $18, or you can just get the books you need (oriental adventures, epic level handbook etc) I think they're about $5 each. I think it makes sense to charge...the books aren't free, and someone has to sit around & program all this info in for e-tools & it certailnly isn't WOTC - they gave up on the thing and that's why codemonkey have it now - I think they're doing a good job. The 3.5 update will be available in 2 weeks or so for download, though you can pay for it now. Yes you have to buy it, but I don't think this is unreasonable, as again someone has to spend the time programming it. If you play by 3.0 rules (like we do) then you don't need to spend the cash. If you play by 3.5 rules (like my other DM does) then you should buy it. In my group, as everyone uses it for character gen, everyone pays for it, that way it's fairer. DM gets more use out of it yes, so he pays a larger portion. |
