| Phebius01-15-04, 08:44 PM | I've got an adventure to run tomorrow and I am hideously ill-prepared. I just need a few sparks of creativity to help me on my way. So I turn to you, fellow DMs. :D Here's the specs: Midnight Campaign. (Midnight is a game setting in a dark world where a dark god rules over the world. Think Middle Earth where Sauron won.) The party (6th level) has just helped fight off a small force of orcs at the cost of one of their own. A Dwarven sage/druid has taken a mortal wound and wishes to be escorted to a sacred pool located near the top of a mountain where her spirit can mingle with the spirits of others like her. This pool is sentient and will be able to tell fortunes for the characters. To get there, The party has to make their way from the underground dwarven holdfast to the outside and up a mountain. I used up all my creativity coming up with that. Any ideas on what could happen along the way? |
| Beatrix Kiddo01-15-04, 09:13 PM | A 5th level thief who is a lycanthrope that turns into a black panther plots to build an unholy army of the night. But it seems the party has inadvertently gotten in the way of his plans... |
| PSchirf01-15-04, 11:33 PM | The forest that encircles the pool acts to protect it from visitors. Trees in the area move to open and close paths in the area(Ala "The Wandering Trees" adventure that was printed in Dragon many moons ago). The party may have to convince the faeries of the area that they are good in order to gain access to the pool. To do this a pixie challenges the party to play a prank on the evil lord of a nearby tower (who is far too powerful for the party to defeat). The party has to take flowerseeds (provided by the pixie) and plant then all around the tower to win the faerie trust. |
| SpamIAm01-16-04, 07:55 AM | :smirk: Thak'lo, a powerful Undead Baron is planning to summon an army of the undead to stomp on the PC's, as a bounty by Sherital, a weathly merchant was placed on there head. He claims the PC's are "Cramping his business". |
| Morka01-16-04, 09:15 AM | You could have them meet The Crawling Jungle (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20030414x) (an abyssal jungle spreading on a prime world), The Twisted Wood (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/re/re20021104x) (a wood protected by a corrupted Treant) or The Shadow Glade (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20030714x) (some evil faes who wish to extend the Plane of Shadow). In all cases, the sentient pool could have been corrupted, and a bastion of good faes send the PCs in a quest to another pool, to bring back some holy water... |
| underpantsgnome01-16-04, 10:01 AM | They could be followed by an Insane Diviner and his hunchback lacky (Rog 2 maybe). The Diviner has gone mad trying to predict the future and is now obsessed with finding this sacred pool. Personally I would make his alignment CN, that way you could do one of two things: A) strictly a combat encounter, descriptors reveal he is clearly insane, PCs put him out of his misery. --OR-- B) After a very short (round, maybe two) of poorly fought comabt, he breaks down, drops to his knees and begs the players to help him, he would reward them with anything he could give them, just take him to the pool. Thats my 2 cp, might have more later....maybe not. |

Why does he need an escort? is there something waiting for him outside the saftey of the town/encampment your at? Is this person belivable, and if not could it possibly be a trick to lure the characters into a trap? Are there others that hear of this pool of power and do they get tag alongs that stalk them along the adventure? Is this sentient pool going to allow all alignments/class/races of your party to greet it or could there be something that triggers a reaction in it? Is this sentient pool really good or could it be tricking everyone to visit it because its actualy a venus fly trap kinda monster? What is the history of this sage, does he have enemies that would not want him to heal his wounds? the list goes on! |
