06-23-06, 02:02 PM A spellcaster casts a spell, and makes his Concentration roll, he is in HtH combat, which provokes an AoO. both the spell and the AoO do enough damage to kill both attackers, is the damage simultaneous?

Is the concentration check for defensive casting, or as part of being hit from the attack of opportunity?

If it's defensive casting, he isn't subject to AoO. Otherwise, if he dies from an attack of opportunity provoked while casting, I'd rule him dead before he can finish the spell; he doesn't even get to roll a concentration check.

DC for Defensive Casting (not provoking an AoO is 15+level of spell)
DC for not being interupted while taking damage is 10+damage dealt.

I assume the situation is as follows:

spellcaster is next to fighter, and is somehow denied a 5' step
spellcaster does not cast defensively
AoO is invoked by the spell

In this case, the person who deals the AoO kills the spellcaster before he can cast his spell

An attack of opportunity "interrupts" the normal flow of actions in the round. If an attack of opportunity is provoked, immediately resolve the attack of opportunity, then continue with the next character’s turn (or complete the current turn, if the attack of opportunity was provoked in the midst of a character’s turn).

So the order goes like this:

Spellcaster begins casting
Attacker strikes with enough damage to kill spellcaster.
Spellcaster dies before spell can be completed.

06-23-06, 02:24 PM It doesn't matter if he makes his roll, the AoO is resolved first, then the caster continues. (in your scenario).

If the caster had survived (lets say he had 1 hp left) then he would finish his spell.

If the caster was "casting defensively" he would not incur an attack of opportunity at all, (and thus would have taken no damage from the AoO). (unless the person had the spell harrier feat i think? or mage slayer?)
