| PaladinTook11-20-07, 09:42 PM | We had some discussion in our last game about AOO's that came up, so I would like everyone to let me know if this is the correct way to do this. To make it easy I will be using the visual examples on page 138 of the PHB, the visual of tordek the fighter. The bold parts are how I am going to rule from now on unless someone shows me different. When Tordek moves from square 'A' to square 'B' he provokes because he moved out of a threatened square. One of my players belives it should only be if you move from a threatened square to an unthreatned square, not if you go from a threatened square to another threatened square, for instance if he wanted to circle around his opponent a couple squares moving through all threatened squares as he moves. When Tordek moves from square 'B' to the square adjacent to the troll he provokes because he moved from the trolls threatened square to another threatened square because of the trolls 10ft reach. This came up in the last game with a dragon(10ft reach) who got an aao on a player who tried to close within melee range, but he seemed to be unsure I made the correct ruling so I decided to come on here and verify if I am doing it correct. Thanks for any help. |

Charging (or just closing with) a creature that has a 10' or greater reach will provoke. Unless of course you are using the withdraw action. |
