So I know (or at least I hope I know) that when a player attacks with an unarmed attack they take a -4 penalty for nonproficiency, deal d3 subdual damage, and provoke an AoO. The -4 I'm not sure about, but that' swhat we've been playing with (correct me if I'm wrong).

And then with touch attacks such as Inflict Light Wounds those also require a touch attack and I figured that those would be followed out in the following way.

Cast defensively or offensively, DC 15+Spell Level for defensively and provoke an AoO if you cast offensively, if they hit with the AoO the spell fails. And then after that you need to hit their touch AC. And is that it? Does that touch attack give the enemy another AoO because you're reaching in? I never played with that rule, and have been thinking about it recently. Maybe because the caster if effectively "proficient" with their attack they don't provoke an AoO?

Thanks,
Eli

The -4 I'm not sure about, but that' swhat we've been playing with (correct me if I'm wrong).Technically, you're always proficient with your fists, so no -4. Nonproficiency represents your inability to handle it properly, and you can always form a fist or a kick. The lack of combat training inherent in attacking with your body is drawn in the SECOND form -- namely, the attack of opportunity. Proper training (the Improved Unarmed Strike feat) will not let you form your fist any better, but it will let you punch without leaving yourself wide open to be stabbed.

And then with touch attacks such as Inflict Light Wounds those also require a touch attack and I figured that those would be followed out in the following way.

When you're carrying the charge for a touch spell, you're considered "armed" and thus do not provoke na attack of opportunity.

Other than this, you're essentially correct -- but do note that you can cast it earlier and then walk in and touch them for many touch spells (see "Holding the Charge" in the SRD).

what he said, except a successful AoO (if you're not casting defensively) does not automatically ruin the spell. You get a concentration check with DC=10+spell level+damage taken to finish the spell.

Also note that you can accept a -4 penalty if you want to, in order to deal lethal damage with your unarmed strike against your opponent.
