| lesliweird11-07-05, 10:10 AM | I'm doing a 10th level dungeon crawl for some friends in a couple of weeks. What do I need to be aware that 10th level PCs can do? What can I do to make this more fun and challenging for them? The dungeon is a recently deceased wizard's tower, so there will be some illusions and magical traps for sure, and I'm going to try to make up as many new monsters as possible because one of my PC's complaints is that after years of DMing he knows the monster manual cover to cover. What contingencies do I need to cover? I expect I'm going to need a couple of extra random encounters in case the PCs do something really clever and toast any one planned challenge in fifty seconds. I was thinking of tailoring them so they would be hard or easy for different character classes- ie. one combat has big time damage reduction while another has spell resistance etc. I know there's a delicate balance between what's tough enough to be a challenge for powerful characters and what's tough enough to kill them outright. Any suggestions on maintaining this balance without knowing in advance what classes everyone will play? Aside from fudging? Anything else y'all think I need to know? |

Email or call them or do whatever you have to to get a look at their characters before you sit down at the table or hell, before you even plan. That will certainly be your biggest aid right there. |
