| Galynea03-09-07, 12:44 PM | I have a simple problem, so I guess there is a simple solution. Here it is: I don't like telling my players what classes to play, but I try to prod them in the right direction when they have to make a new char. Here is the party: Cleric, Warlock, Fighter, Druid, Battlemage and Sorcerer. The problem is that when you look at a typical fight, the ennemy won't even have time to close on the party before exploding into tiny shreds... those battlemages pack lots of punch (in strenght and in number of spells). The lock uses her eldritch blast, the druid (the player in fact) is a pyromaniac and the sorcer loves to throw rays... so there aren't many monsters that get into melee, so the combats aren't tactical at all. Is there a good long-term solution? Is spell resistance the solution or are there other options for the long-term? Right now, I must send 2 CR7 mobs at my lvl 6 players and they seldom have time for a single hit even with those large HP pools... but when they do a full-round attack on that bunch of squishies, it's almost a certain kill... Any ideas to make those fights more fun? |
| Zoycitenega03-09-07, 01:30 PM | Your players are long ranged? throw them against another long range character. Make traps(they don't have a thief) that triger an anti-magic field. Make it so that a melee fighter sneaks up on them. |
| kelvinaw27303-09-07, 01:34 PM | And the answer to you r problem is an enemy that chooses a defensive position, shoots at the party and then hides as they run into all those pre-prepared traps that line the path to the encoutner. Then they fall back and do it again .... Really, your party has no trapspringer, so they are a bit totalled in that respect ... |
| Matthew7703-09-07, 01:44 PM | Enemies that are both clever and ruthless might throw several waves of cannon fodder in first to soak up the spells, then attack once the casters are running low. Or.. lesser globe of invulnerability, and Ray Deflection if the enemy has arcane spells and foreknowledge of party tactics. Monsters with burrow+swallow whole can give ray-flingers a bad day. Or the time-honored hit and run, never let them rest tactic. Rope trick messes with this, but then you get 8 hours to set a nice ambush when they come out. Fast moving opponents that can grapple. Archers with shot-on-the run, or even just readying actions to fire upon the spellcasters. |
| Cthulhu-LQ03-09-07, 02:06 PM | An ennemy spellcaster summons a bunch of creatures in the middle of the PCs. This gives time for other ennemies to close in. Like ennemy monks who move really fast Illusions on which the PCs risk wasting their spells on? Mirror images? A dungeon with lots of turns where the PCs cant benefit much from their ranged attacks An ambush Ennemy archers with shot on the run |

| TheDarkLord03-11-07, 12:35 AM | I have a simple problem, so I guess there is a simple solution. Here it is: I don't like telling my players what classes to play, but I try to prod them in the right direction when they have to make a new char. Here is the party: Cleric, Warlock, Fighter, Druid, Battlemage and Sorcerer. Battlemage and sorcerer are easy targets for rogues with UMD and using scrolls of invisibility. Warlock would go down easily against any Full BAB monster. Fighter would be susceptible to ranged spells targeting the Will save. The Druid and the Cleric on the other hand might be a problem. Ranged/Flying monsters or NPC's would give them some problems. Anything that forces a Reflex save would also work against them. Their Fort is alright, not as good as their will so target them with essentially SoD type spells that are intended to hamper more than kill. High SR monsters would also be good to soak up spells while dealing massive damage in charge type attacks against the casters. Perhaps using something with burrow could help out alot. A bulette is about their range I believe, not sure, but something like that could really give them trouble. |
| Voran03-11-07, 11:59 AM | Heck, even fighting in a terrain environment that provides either cover or concealment or even both, like a forest, would make things more difficult for the blasters. |
| Kouk03-11-07, 03:23 PM | Ooh, Dominate their Fighter! |
| Senevri03-11-07, 04:28 PM | Mm... spell turning... |

| Cyanide30003-11-07, 08:19 PM | Monks with the Mage Slayer feat and Combat Reflexes... All good saves, evasion, good HP, fast speed, high touch AC, stunning fist, can't cast defensively while they threaten you. Easily done with low level NPCs. |
| GunsNRoses03-11-07, 08:28 PM | rakshasa or whatever they are the cat things that r resistant to 8th and below level spells :D |
| Voran03-11-07, 10:10 PM | Teleporting slime creatures that do 'death from above' attacks. |
