| TheVeiledOne03-12-05, 11:54 PM | My whole group is still fairly new, and i was thinking things might move smoother for now if i made everyone papers with things like initiative, armor class, attack bonus, damage with their various weapons, ability scores, skills they have ranks in and class features. I would put on there how it was figured out so things could be changed, and they could figure out how it works. What do you all think? |
| Salla03-12-05, 11:58 PM | Most of that information should be on any decent character sheet. Check the downloads section on the main D&D site. |
| Edymnion03-13-05, 12:19 AM | Yes, its called a Character Sheet, and they are integral parts of any game. There's just WAY too much information a player has to keep up with to do it all from memory. You can download them from the main site, there's lots of them online that you could google, there is one included with every PHB that you can xerox, or you can buy specific class character sheets at your local gaming store. Or you can just write it all out on a sheet of notebook paper. Whatever you do, having a character sheet is pretty much essential to play, ESPECIALLY for new players, who will spend more time looking at their sheets than they will their dice. |
| Aricandor03-13-05, 03:20 AM | Not only is that good to have, it is also something that most (if not all) DM's expect you to actually do. You could say it is core. ;) There is a sheet in the back of the PHB. Just copy it for each PC and you're set (there are a lot of much better sheets out there though). |
| VerinBlod03-13-05, 04:33 PM | Yes that is standard equipment for a player. You might even want to make a copy from every player's sheet so you can more easily prepare adventures and help your players figure their stats out. |
| Nytmare03-13-05, 04:36 PM | I think what TheVeiledOne is suggesting is that he make a slimmed down sheet for each of the players, explaining how and where the numbers come from. If that's what you're saying, I don't think it's a bad idea, but I think that the players would probably get more out of it if you walked them through the process together. |

I agree, I believe that is what TheVeiledOne, was alluding to. If so, you may even want to make it easier on yourself, as well as making sure your Players are familiarizing themselves with the PHB by making a list of page/rule references - like so: Combat Initiative, PHB, pg xx Combat Casting, PHB, pg xx Healing Domain, PHB, pg xxx et cetera.... Running your group through some gladiator-like combats is a good idea for making sure they become used to running combats. Anything you can do to help your Players know where to find what you need them to find as far as rules go is a good idea. :dragon: **** |
| Arkonth03-13-05, 06:59 PM | If you run a Google search for a DM's or Party sheet or the like, your bound to find something that suits your purpose. |
| clarkvalentine03-13-05, 07:07 PM | In addition to a full character sheet, having an "at-a-glance" sheet with the combat basics, short descriptions of how commonly used skills, feats, and class abilities work, and descriptions of favorite spells are a fantastic aide for new players - and even some old ones. Even something as simple as a list of page numbers (ie. "Bull Rush - pushes oppoent back, see page XX Player's Handbook") can speed things up tremendously. |
