[4 fighter level, 2 fiendish template]
Hit Dice: 3d10 [fighter] + 9 [Con]

Either he has 4 hit dice, or he's actually level 3.

Skills [45 ranger]:

I'll just assume you meant fighter?

I really dont know much about half-fiends though, so I can't really help past that.

actually I saw one more thing

Skills [45 fighter]:
Climb +10 [+7 fighter, +3 Str], Craft (poisonmaking) +9 [+7 fighter, +2 Int], Intimidate +7 [+7 fighter, +0 Cha], Jump +10 [+7 fighter, +3 Str], Move Silently +7 [+3 Dex, +4 racial], Swim +10 [+7 fighter, +3 Str]

Adding up the "+7 Fighter"s, I only count 35 there, and you've got 45 written in the top.
Now, I'm not sure what half-fiend does for skills (besides the Int bonus), but a level 4 fighter should have 2+Intx7 skill points, meaning only 28 for your guy :/

Challenge Rating: 6 [4 fighter level, 2 fiendish template]
The half-fiend template says that the challenge Rating is "as base creature +1" for creatures with 4 HD or less, so it should be CR5.

Skills [45 fighter]:
Climb +10 [+7 fighter, +3 Str], Craft (poisonmaking) +9 [+7 fighter, +2 Int], Intimidate +7 [+7 fighter, +0 Cha], Jump +10 [+7 fighter, +3 Str], Move Silently +7 [+3 Dex, +4 racial], Swim +10 [+7 fighter, +3 Str]
The half-fiend template says that the half-fiend gains outsider skill points only for its racial Hit Dice. Since the hobgoblin doesn't have any racial HD, it only gains class levels skills, so (level +3) X (2 + int bonus) = 7 X 4 = 28.

I'm pretty sure that under "skills" for half fiends, it states that he gains skill points as an outsider (8+ int mod/level). But I'm not sure if it's only for racial hit dice, or if class levels recieve this bonus, too. Also, make sure he has the right amount of gold for character of hjis effective character level (not CR). So, add the hit dice, level adjustment for goblin, and the level adjustment for half-fiend. I think that gives you a 9th level character. His CR is indeed 6, but his ECL is nine. One last thing. Those darts have to be masterwork and +1 already before they can have "exit wounds" added to them. So they all count as +2 weapons. I'm not sure on the prices of ammo, though.
I don't have the books on me right now, so I can't be positive about certain things.
That's all I could see. Cool villian.

Corrected! I'm going to be posting this and some higher level versions of him in a bit, so I'm making sure this is all right.

Attacks:

Masterwork kama +9 melee [+4 fighter, +3 Str, +1 Weapon Focus feat, +1 masterwork weapon] (1d6+3+2 [crit x2])

OR

+2 paralyzing dart thruster +9 ranged [+4 fighter, +3 Dex, +2 masterwork weapon] (1d4 [19-20/x2]

OR

Claw +7 melee [+4 fighter, +3 Str] (1d6+3) and bite +2 melee [+4 fighter, +3 Str, -5 secondary attack] (1d4+3)

Damage on the dart should be 1d4+2 (since it's a +2 weapon)

Damage on the bite should be 1d4+1 (secondary weapons use 1/2 Str. bonus)

NPCs with levels in PC classes (fighter, ranger, etc...) use the Elite Array by Defalut (15,14,13,12,10,8). NPCs with NPC levels (warrior, adept, etc...) us the non-elite array (13,12,11,10,9,8). NPCs with no class levels us the standard array (11,11,11,10,10,10).

That's taken into account with the higher CR of PC classes.

And it looks like you've got more wealth for your NPC then you should have. A 4th level NPC should have 3,300 GP worth of gear. Of course you're free to change this, as I know I have for a number of my NPCs, but I just figured I'd mention it.
Devin, The Rogue Princess

12-14-05, 05:26 PM
I did change it because someone earlier told me that it was too little gold. Is the gold cap for a character based on his ECL or is actual level?

5th level (CR 5) NPC gear: 4,300 gp.
9th level (ECL 9) NPC gear: 12,000 gp
A random CR 5 treasure: 1,600 gp.

Personally I would go with the CR 5 (4,300 gp) gear. Of course if his expensive stuff his cursed or whatever, then feel free to give him much more.

Though from mechanics and style perspective, this character seems perfect to be a Mnk2/Ftr2 (in that order). You've got a dedicated monk weapon with a specialist feat and an LE character. Mechanically, sacrificing 2 levels of Ftr for 2 levels of monk loses 3 hp and 1 BAB for +2 to all saves, Evasion, Monk Improved Unarmed Strike, two bonus feats (Improved Grapple and Combat Reflexes), 10 extra skill points and some other abilities that can't be used in armour.

In either case, note that you can't fly if your load exceeds light. I don't think this is currently a problem, but be aware if it.

I'd also agree with Pellanor about equipment. 20,000+ gp is way too much treasure for a CR 5 opponent. Defeating just this guy would grant a group of 4 PCs over half of the level 5 treasure allotment. Level 4 is 5,400 gp. Level 5 is 9,000 gp. This guy is worth about 5,500 gp per character.

those are some high stats dude
Devin, The Rogue Princess

12-14-05, 07:57 PM
It comes from using the elite scores, and then adding in the half-fiend's bonuses.

Edit: And I am no 'dude'. I really dislike it when guys (and girls) refer to me by that...

Am I to assume that it is correct now? Can I go on to make his 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th level versions now?
