| Avrilmalidor09-21-05, 07:41 PM | I was wondering if there are any published rules for maiming (i.e. a character losing a hand, arm, eye, etc.) and the recommended penalties that come associated with it. I checked the PHB and DMG (3.0 ones) but was unable to find any rules besides a -2 penalty to specific wounded body parts that goes away with normal healing. |

My group plays with a houserule regarding maiming (it has only come up once, so it was a spot rule that stood). A coup de grace with a lethal weapon can be used to render a body part non-functional instead of killing its victim (crushing, severing, stabbing through nerves, etc.). The hit still deals critical damage (which may kill the victim), but if the saving throw is failed the limb is destroyed instead of the victim being dead. |
