In previous editions there were rules for how intoxication affected combat. Are there rules like this in 3.5? I have a combat coming up with a god of revelry, and I want the opponents to be magically drunk. If there are rules for this in 3.5, I'll use them, otherwise, I'll make something up.
Thanks!

Other than the drunken monk in... Complete Warrior I think, I haven't seen any rules for being drunk in 3.5 Sorry.

Put a -1 penalty on everything that requires thought, coordination, or training of any kind. In combat, this means everything from Armor Class to Zen Archery.

I think in previous editions you got more hit points, but minuses to hit.

I don't know that they are tougher, but people often say that drunks walk away from crashes that would kill a sober person.

Drunks are sometimes harder for the police to subdue because they don't care as much about being whacked or maced.

I give my players bonuses to STR and CON but minuses to everything else, including to hit. I once even gave a player Die-hard (he was pretty close to drinking himself to death), and we agreed his character would be so out-of-it, that it wouldn't matter if he were into negatives, he was too oblivious to care.

The Arms and Equipment Guide, while a 3.0 product, details the effects of intoxication quite nicely. I highly recommend you pick it up, since much of the material presented can be very useful, and very few things from it have made it into 3.5 products.

They walk away because they dont tense up when the car crashes, they stay loose. This is why when a drunk driver crashes into a sober driver its the one who didn't do anything wrong that pays the price for it.

Which might translate into more hit points. I am not saying this makes sense, I am just saying that I recall drunkeness giving more hit points in previous editions.

I don't see how being drunk will make you tougher...

When you're drunk you tend to ignore pain a little better. I routinely challenge friends to punch me in the stomach when I'm drunk and rarely feel anything until the next day. I've gotten a concussion from head butting a wall that didn't bother me until I sobered up.

Hit points are about as unrealistic a system as you can get, but I think extra HP for being drunk translates well enough. I'd probably give a boost of +2 to con and a -2 to every D20 roll. Someone who's buzzed would just get a -1 to everything with no bonus HP.

I treat alcohol as a drug with moderate addiction that deals 1 point of wisdom and dexterity damage per drink.

Maybe it affects everyone differently...
"Am I drunk?... Roll the dice to see if I'm drunk!"
"What?... Ok, you're drunk."
"Are there any girls there? Cause if they are, I wanna..."

Per drink??? You running a game full of Elven Maidens and Halflings? At that rate the average medeival dinner would leave everyone with no Will or Fort save, Blind, Deaf and incapable of brushing their teeth.

I'm a martial artist and I'm extremely aware of the effects of alcohol on the hand-eye coordination but a point of Dex and Wis per drink is a little much. I mean my Rogues would be selling bridges to everyone in the tavern.

Cityscape has rules for Intoxication Fort saves

For some reason, I remember there being something in a Dragon magazine awhile back. Maybe w/in the last 12 issues or so.

There's also a new card game, can't remember the name of it, that is basically a drunken brawl

I personally don't care for any D&D rules regarding intoxication that I've seen. Generally I just allow players to say how drunk they are getting in terms of a penalty to their dex and wisdom.

In the rare cases where they don't have any control over how much they drink, I generally go with the guideline that the body can get rid of the effects of 1 drink per hour. It can deal with 1 drink with no penalty, and each drink above 1 currently in the system causes a -1 penalty to dex and wisdom. This meshes up pretty well with reality, IMO. Note that one drink is one real beer (about 5% alcohol), a shot, or a glass of wine. All of those have about 0.6 oz of alcohol in them.

Oh yeah, I left something out.

Fortitude DC 10-13 to avoid the effects, depending on the strength of the drink.

Sorry about that, my brain moves faster than my fingers when I type, and sometimes I leave stuff out of my posts.

If by "drink" he means "one serving of alcohol" that is about right. 10 servings of alcohol taken fairly quickly gets your blood alcohol around .20%, which is pretty much anhilliated.

I have a character in my campaign who has the vile feat parasites, which allows him to flush his system of a poison. He asked if this would apply to alcohol, and of course, I said yes. What we ended up getting is a character that drinks to the point no other man has. he basically, to quote murder by death, drinks whiskey instead of water.

His character only drinks hard liquor, which I pegged at DC 15. Every failed save put him at the next level of intoxication
Buzzed -1 on all check
Drunk -2 on all checks, -2 on dex and wis
Hammered -4 on all checks, -4 on dex and wis. die hard feat
Smashed -8 on all checks, -6 on dex and wis. Die hard feat

One night of rest recovered all the ability damage done, and reverts his state to hung over, which was simply a -1 on all wisdom checks. however, his character could easily eliminate this with his ability

Finally, one thing we do in our campaigns is make all elven wine Will saves. The elves are so lame they had to adjust the saves of a drink so they would be good at it!

Just to jump in here and comment on the fact that if we where to introduce a bit of historical accuracy most ale in a DnD setting is about as alcoholic as a lager shandy. It ain't alcoholic to get you drunk, it is alcoholic to make it sterile.

I think BoVD might have rules for drugs that you could adapt....i dont remember where the other rules for drugs are, and if you are able to get a bit more mature with it, BoEF has some rules for that as well i believe,

Simply put, that is due to a loss of reaction. When in a crash you tense up if sober as a reflex. This is actually bad for you, and will lead to more injuries than if you were simply slack.

On the other hand, if you weren't drunk, THERE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT!!!
