I am 99% sure that what I want to know here is somewhere in the DMG, but for some reason I just cannot find it. If anyone can give me the information or just point to the right general area (or even be really nice and point me to the right page) I would greatly appreciate.

1) What is the approximation for many creatures of a lower CR will equal out to a higher CR challenge? (For example, how many CR 1 creatures does it take to make approximately a CR 2 encounter?)

2) What's the average treasure value per encounter by level? (Assuming random treasure generation)

Thanks for any input.

For 1), the approximate, guideline method is that 2 creatures of CR x combine to form one CR (x+2) encounter.

For 2), I'm afraid I haven't put in the time to find the general principle behind treasure. I'm not sure there is one. But for levels 1-5, it's about

1 92 gp
2 184 gp
3 553 gp
4 830 gp
5 1107 gp

1) I know what you're talking about, I can see the chart in my head. It's in the section on XP, somewhere around the CR-to-XP conversion chart. Search around there.

2) Use your glossary, it's a pretty hard chart to miss.

Hey folks,
The easiest way to figure this kind of stuff out is the automatic tables, just input your character levels and CR of creature and it will calculate XP and treasure value for you. It's taking the easy way out, but hey that's what DMing is all about......
link here: http://www.enworld.org/cc/fiend_factory/elc/encounter_calculator.htm

Also you can find this link and lot o' useful stuff in the useful DM links thread.

Have Fun,

I would be happy to assist you with that.

No problem what you are looking for is Table 3-1 Encounter numbers, found on page 49 of you freindly DMG.

This depends on a few factors, such as level of the encounter and how lucky your treasure dice are. (Mine love the party, ;) )
However if you want a chart to go off, try Table 3-3 treasure values per Encounter PG 51.

Also reference the wealth comparisons Table PG 54, and you may wish to take a look at the recomended NPC wealth table found on PG 127 of the DMG.

Cheers :)
And rember, it always found in your local DMG, if not make something up, or blow soemthing up.

You can also check the SRD under Treasure (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35).

I didn't see one for Experience.

But for 3.0 check page 101 Table 4-1.

2) What's the average treasure value per encounter by level? (Assuming random treasure generation)Checking the List of Numbered Tables in the back of the DMG reveals "Table 3-3: Treasure Values per Encounter ... 51". This table lists the nominal value of treasure that an EL = average party level encounter should grant to keep a party of 4 characters with the 'correct' amount of treasure, and also closely approximates (in theory) the results from table 3-5.

Any results from 3-5 that wildly differ from 3-3 should be either culled or counterbalanced.
