| maddog071405-11-07, 10:13 PM | if someone wears +6 heavy mitheral plate mail of fortification, would an orb of acid affect the wearer if the mitheral plate mail was not damaged, or made its saving throw? If it would damage the player, how? |
| Empiro05-11-07, 10:31 PM | I think you're confused on several points: You can't target someone's armor with an Orb of Acid The fortification will prevent the Orb of Acid from scoring a critical hit on you, but it won't prevent the Orb of Acid from dealing normal damage to you Orbs of Acid doesn't damage the armor that someone is wearing, it damages the wearer. Making a save against the Orb of Acid prevents you from getting sickened, nothing else. Furthermore, being immune to critical hits doesn't prevent you from being sickened. |
| runestar05-11-07, 10:33 PM | Why would the armour protect the wear from the orb of acid? It does not grant acid resistance or anything... |
| maddog071405-12-07, 12:21 PM | Wouldn't the orb of acid have to get thru the armor of fortification to damage the wearer? I think the orb of acid would hit the armor before hitting the wearer, so how could the armor not be targeted as well? |
| Pegasos98905-12-07, 12:33 PM | No no no... It is a spell requiring a ranged touch attack. Armor does not affect it. Don't go too far to the "but if you think logically..." or you get to questions such as "why does armor make you harder to hit instead of reducing damage", etc... Spell with ranged tourch attack only needs to hit touch ac, armor or such won't affect in any way. The only explanation is "It is magic" |
| Someone05-12-07, 12:34 PM | Nope. You don't have to go through the armor, at least not with the touch attack of the spell. Were the spell resolved with a normal (non-touch) attack roll, then yes, you would have to get past the armor. But fullplate is going to have as much as an effect against the spell as it would against a water balloon- it won't stop you from getting wet, as the splashed liquid seeps through the gaps and soaks you. |
| Pegasos98905-12-07, 12:35 PM | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/combatStatistics.htm#touchAttacks Here are about touch attacks. That is how they work, nothing else. |
| Comus05-12-07, 12:46 PM | Protip: Armor is not damaged by attacks unless the attack specifically notes it. Nor does it reduce damage from attacks unless otherwise noted. |
| Madoffler05-12-07, 03:52 PM | Wouldn't the orb of acid have to get thru the armor of fortification to damage the wearer? I think the orb of acid would hit the armor before hitting the wearer, so how could the armor not be targeted as well? Does an arrow have to puncture armor to do damage? If so I can only imagine the repair process your players have to go through after every fight. |
