armor plated soles [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-20-05, 04:41 PM I've recently gotten an idea for flying wizard/warlock protection.
Thinking a bit more on my "Pavise" thread from a while back.

example
A level 6 warlock can cast Fell Flight (which lets you fly for 24 hours)
when waking up the warlock casts his spell
he then always hovers about 10 inch of the ground !important!
While others don their armor, the warlock ties a large iron/steel/wooden parabolic (bowl-shaped) shield to his feet.

This effectively gives him protection from any attack that come from the area roughly below him.
He could also sit down in one of these "shields" and make it his personal "hover-chair" where he can keep various items. i.e. Potions, thunderstones (to drop down) arrows etc.

Is this a bad idea? if not, would it require extra feats or special training (probably)

03-20-05, 08:17 PM It would take some figuring but I would give total cover (but no line of sight for the Warlock) in some situations, and partial in others. Of course the warlock would still be vulnerable to area affect spells and even heat metal or warp wood could be a real bummer at some ranges.

All in all it seems that this strategy (like almost all others) would work great under the right circumstances but blow in others.

03-20-05, 09:06 PM First, design the item. Second, because this is such a unique and vastly different item, anyone would have to take a feat to gain the full bonus of using it. This is equivilant to Tower Shielf Prof. and Exotic Weapon prof.
