| overchill4212-19-06, 12:13 AM | I'm working on a system for the description of combat, for use when I start my own campaign. I feel such a system would a good addition, since a canny player could divine how much they miss by just through the description. I enjoy dropping subtle clues like that. As it happens, I also don't like misleading or arbitrary descriptions. To this end, I'm trying to figure out in what order AC bonuses apply. It's kind of a scale, starting at the character's AC and moving down. This is what I have so far: --Character's AC-- (you've been hit!) -Natural Armour (the blow bypassed your armour, but glanced off your thick hide) -Manufactured Armour (the blow rings off your full plate) -Trained Dodge (you skillfully avoid your opponent's blade) -Dexterity bonus (you easily evade the opponent's swings) -Base 10 (your opponent straight-up missed) Those are the most common bonuses, so I figured they would be pretty easy to place. More exotic ones like luck, sacred/profane, and deflection have to be fit in there somewhere. Help with that would be appreciated. The system starts to break down (in my mind) when I start describing how much they hit by, or things like Natural 20. Ideas on that would be good too. Thanks for whatever input is forthcoming. |
