Why wouldn't it be? Most of that dagger's punishing death power is from the man wielding it. A "simple" +4 Defending dagger is much easier to replace than a +1 Keen Assassin's Dagger of Wounding. Makes sense that a well known assassin would use a nondescript weapon, so that if he ever lost it, it would be easier to replace. If there's supposedly a poison effect, he most likely smeared it on there before hand. If it instantly kills its victims, it's the Assassin's Death Attack.

Unless I'm missing something, like it being made of lasers or dead babies or something. That guy could kill someone with a pound of sliced ham, why would he need some kind of uber +10 Vorpal Keen Thundering Explosion Dagger of Wounding and Speed.

Also, fiction does not translate well to the codified rules of D&D. So chill. Everything will be fine, I promise.

because in the book it specificly attributes " life draining" to a his " wicked jeweled dagger" ... not exactly non-descript....and the dagger never ONCE was ever used in the fight passages as a " defensive weapon" .. it was accually his primary way of dealing pain and death...

( have you ever read the books? )

and i just want to see what people come up with and why :D

I agree, it was/is not a +4 defending dagger. It's main effect is that it drains the life out of its victims and transfers it to the wielder, correct? That sounds like vampiric touch to me. So make it a magical (+2) dagger with the ability to make a vampiric touch with a single successful attack per day, with the amount of hp gained equal to the amount of damage done. Very dangerous in a rogue's hand, as that sneak attack can make a huge difference.

But your asking someone to do it for you? How come? Is it going to be in a campaign you're running? Just curious? Just miffed? Any way, you're going to be more happy with something you create than anything we here can create. Right?

I really just want to see what people come up with from what they read.... :P .. maybe people can come up with a history for the weapon itself...

I just wanna see lol..

I thought about the vampiric life drain..... like " vampire touch" but who knows? lol maybe a better game mechanic something more balanced ? i dunno... lets see what everyone comes up with lol

As long as, in the end, he finally ganks Drizzt with it...I'll be happy.

Well, I'd always seen that "life stealing" part as more of just an exposition on how Entreri felt no joy in life, and was generally an empty shell of a man; except for his satisfaction of a job well done. He didn't actually "heal" after killing someone, he just felt more alive, and as such seemed to heal afterwards.

The defending part isn't about fighting in a defensive manner. It just adds to his AC, making him harder to hit.

I always thought it was more of a psychological effect. If you don't like my take on the subject, that's fine. I've offered an alternative below.

Entreri's Dagger 2.0: +4 Defending Dagger. Once per day, on a successful use of an assassin's Death Attack ability, the wielder is healed up to a number of HPs equal to the HP total of the target before the death attack.

Sorry, but that doesn't quite work out. Cattie Brie, in the novel Starless Night, had use of Artemis' dagger for a period of time, and was horrified to discover that the blade seemed to siphon the very life from a goblin she was defending herself from, which healed a wound that she had sustained.

Joy of killing..? Maybe. Not in the latter novels, as much, but maybe. Still, the weapon has, without doubt, some draining ability.

I would say it is a +4 vampiric dagger. while this ability is not in the core rulebooks, i have seen it listed in the supplement Magic of Faerun (the ability not the dagger).

In the last book "Promise of the Witch King" An ally is near death, so Artemis puts the dagger into the dying dwarf's hand and plunges it into one of his opponenets killing his foe and healing the Dwarf. Definatly a vampiric blade.

Indeed.

If I were to run it I'd treat it as a Minor Artifact, and give it a dumbed-down version of the Souldrinker sword from the ELH.

Creature's struck with the weapon woudl take 1dx negitive levels, and the wielder woudl heal 5 HP for every negitive level inflcited; furthermore if killed with the dagger, the creature's soul is utterly destroyed, preventing ressurection, and the wielder gains 1 perminant HP for however many HD the slain creature had before death.

Just because, Artemis was INFINATELY cooler the Drizzt ever was or will be, better looking too.

Yes starless night was a good read and most assuredly lays out the abilities of his dagger as being life draining in nature.

+4 Vampiric Dagger The wielder is healed a number of points equal to the number of points of damage dealt with each succesful attack

I'd just make it +4 vampiric rather than +4 defending. Vampiric is a forgotten realms weapon enchantment, but I can't remember for the life of me what book it's in. As I recall, vampiric weapons deal an additional d4 damage. The wielder is healed the same amount as the damage from the extra d4. I think it was a +1 enhancement bonus enchantment.

+ 2 Dagger of 1/day 5d6 vampire touch as a touch attack (10th caster). I would say + 4 as it is just a spell storing with an auto vampire touch each day. The defending prob comes from the fact that without defending he would have too low ac.

I say it is a touch attack because Enteri only need touch his foes to use it. aka when Regis nicks the drow and kills him 1 shot.

BTW they also messed up carrions claw but it is prob a minor artifact. Still having darkness ash 3/day would be better than wounding.

I find it odd that WoTC would keep this lie up thats 3 times (FR setting, Min card, now on the web) I think ask wizards should not have taken on this question if they only had his weapons as fillers.

You could make it Wrathful Healing, from Enemies and Allies. Heals half the damage done, IIRC.

undescript? have you read the books? in Streams of Silver Regis knew that it was Entreri by his dagger.
