Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could please offer advice & opinion (PEACH) on the following dilemma:

RAW, the artificer can emulate ANY spell required as a component / ability for an item, given the vast number of spells available across all the books available (for the campaign - races of, complete X, etc), the DM of our group believes this is too overpowering and as a result has limited the available spells to only those in the Spell Compendium, Eberron CS & the PHB (potentially the Magic of Eberron).

What have other DMs & players found with regards to artificer spell access (and the ensuing obscure spell usage).

I have looked at the Art. FAQ 2.0 (it says ~"anything goes"). I am aware that the 3 books still have a lot of spells between them - and Rule 0.
We're after pespective at this point as the DM has not seen one in action before.
(His previous suggestion was that he could only use spells the Art had been exposed to / another party member could cast - until it was pointed out that 1) The only other party member was a cleric (ok, better than a mage in this respect for accessible spells) and 2) the bit where he can craft 2 levels ahead of schedule.)

Sorry for the length,
Thanks in advanced.

I've thought of this before...and wondered about some kind of Knowledge Check or Spellcraft check to see if you "Know" a spell. This also creates an extra award system for Artificers.
