Grand1 12-15-05, 01:09 PM	Does any1 know what happens when a 10 level PrC with its own caster progression get improved by another PrC? Examples: one of my players is planning to use Rogue5/Assassin10/AT5 since Assassin does get arcane spell and its own list, how does Arcane Trickster's "+1 level arcane spellcasting class" affect Assassin who has finished his spellcaster progression? he says he would gain more spell and caster levels; i belive it would be caster level only, but i cant find the rule to back up either a new comer to my group wants to do the same thing with wiz, ur-priest & Mystic Thurge :S

However your Rogue/Assassin/AT doesn't work, because AT has the ability to cast mage hand as a prereq and assassin doesn't have mage hand on it's spell list. Since there is no spell progression beyond 10th for the assassin, that build will simply increase the caster level for his spells if it did work. Your newcomer has obviously been visiting the CO boards, as that particular setup is one of the most common ways the CO people use to get 9th level arcane and divine spells before 20th level.

Pellanor 12-15-05, 02:16 PM	The build is simple, Wizard 10, Ur-Priest 2, Mystic Theurge 8. Makes you a 18th caster for wizard spells, and a 15th caster for cleric spells but you have access to 9th level clerical spells, and if you take practiced caster you can boost your Ur-Priest CL to 19. Be prepared for that character to also take Divine Metamagic and Persistant Spell. note: this build is rather weak at low levels. And yeah, what's been said about the assassin is right, caster level goes up, but no extra spells.
