Ok, I'm putting my party up against a 9th level shaper...

The party contains a 10th level paladin, an 8th level ninja, an 8th level fighter, and a fighter 6/Exotic Weapons Master 1/Warblade 1.

The BBEG is going to hide behind an Ectoplasmic Wall, use Anticipatory Strike, and summon a fully augmented Astral Construct.

The rest of the rounds are going to be him manifesting annoying powers like, Ectoplasmic cocoon, Entangling Ectoplasm, etc...

Do they stand a chance? If so, what would they need to do?

If your players are smart, the shaper will get slaughtered. The ninja can just run right up next to him and start to beat the holy F**k out of him... The paladin/warblade/fighter just needs to get near him and it'll be over.

You need to maybe exploit their weaknesses a bit. Have him flying? They don't look like they can do much against an air-born foe.

I don't see a 9th lv caster being cr9. Maybe cr7.5 or 8 at most (by comparing it with the psionic mindflayer as a yardstick).

I don't see too much problem for your party, they should steamroll over the fight with minimal trouble.:)
