| frostyusa09-14-03, 07:08 PM | I have an encounter that for reasons I shall not get in to here did not go as planned. The short version is that I have a 6th level party standing in front of a unicorn sans horn and they (read I ) must figure out away to get it back. Option 1) get the orginal horn back and reattach it using a spell What spell would be used and what components? I would rather not have the party go and retrieve the horn themselves simply because the enemy that took it is much more powerful and even an attempt to retrieve it on her home turf would result in the death of the entire party. How to get her out of that turf with the horn is something I have toyed with as well. She is not invunerable just inaccessible. ie. a level 6 party cannot go assault the home of a senior drow priestess in the Underdark and even expect to get within sight of the city walls much less get into the house and get out with the horn. Option 2) Find a spell that will regenerate it. I know wish will work but other than that is there a super duper regeration spell for only magical/celestial creatures? Even if the components are exotic it is still more viable than the party at current level tracking the current owner of the alicorn. I know that I am the DM and what I say works even if it is against the books but has anyone run across a similiar situation? |
| Wizard09-14-03, 07:28 PM | Perhaps a scroll of heal could be scrounged? |
| Fable09-14-03, 07:42 PM | I would make this its own quest - perhaps they need to find X, Y & Z spell component to regenerate the horn. It should be hard or else people would keep unicorns in their cellars and break off the horns then heal them over and over. A personal sacrifice of some kind might also be involved. Perhaps the water from the spring of youth - blood of a silver dragon and the horn of some undersea kingdom, etc.. This is a great starting point for an adventure. Of course depends on how hard you wanna make it and how long you want it to take. |
| frostyusa09-14-03, 07:52 PM | I had antcipated this being its own quest just don't know how involved I want to make it (multiple sessions or just one). I don't think a heal spell would do it just because of the magical nature of the alicorn |
| Glenn71109-14-03, 07:52 PM | Well, one thing I might try would be to somehow implement rumors of a cleric of Ehlonna or Mielikki (FR) that is able to assist a wounded unicorn. Elaborating on that could be exotic components necessary to perform such a spell, which could be a quest in it's own. -Glenn |
| Vanigo09-14-03, 10:22 PM | I don't see any reason why regeneration wouldn't fix the problem, if the PCs can find a high enough level cleric/druid to cast it. |
| Wizard09-14-03, 10:29 PM | Heal states that it "removes injury and afflictions," but it never mentions regenerating lost limbs. I'm not sure if you'd have it do that. But in another vein, regenerate will grow the unicorn a new one. A scroll of regenerate would therefore do the trick. I'm in favor of taking this as an opportunity to find out the true alignments of your players. Make the drow priestess the BBEG, and jump the campaign to that. It's not every day you have PC's solidly caught in an adventure hook of their own making. This is your decision, of course. And fyi, magical nature has *nada* to do with heal. |
