little question about mounted combat:
can a character attack at the end of a horse's run?

The rules are a little vague on this:
"If your mount moves more than 5 feet, you can only make a single melee attack. Essentially, you have to wait until the mount gets to your enemy before attacking, so you can't make a full attack. Even at your mount's full speed, you don't take any penalty on melee attacks while mounted."

Also interesting to point out is that the PHB specifically allows a ranged attack on a running mount for -8 to hit.

so, to restate the question, can a character on a running mount attack at the end of the run?

Yes. I'd also say that since it is the mount who is moving and not you, you can also attack at the begining of your turn and ride away, or you can even ride up, attack and ride away with Ride By Attack.

I've also house-ruled that you can make multiple attacks per round when moving on a horse (at the customary -2 penalty), just no two can hit the same target with out it being Large or you having a reach weapon.
