| Twilight_Genie01-03-07, 02:51 PM | Okay, so here's the deal. The players have recently come across a plot to invade the capitole city of the kingdom, and have traveled there to warn the king. However, because of increased gnoll activity in the region, and a recent attempt on the kings life by assassins, no one is being allowed in to see him. Even telling the royal council about the coming invasion does not get the characters an audiance, because the king's royal wizard does not believe them. So what are some alternative methodes for getting into the castle to see the king? Preferably without getting thrown in prison or killed in the process. :P Oh, if it helps, there is a festivale coming up in the city, and caravans are arriveing everyday. Also an ambassador from the wild elves is currently visiting with the king to discuss the growing gnoll problem. |
| jera01-03-07, 03:02 PM | First allow your players to find inventive/orignal ways to get into the king. If you are a player and asking people for help word it that way. BTW: Going through the Sewers works 9 times out of 10, plus you usualy run by the treasure room ;). |
| Orbb_was_railed_by_God01-03-07, 03:22 PM | Jera: Hellsing rocks. Rally the masses? As in, if there are hundreds of commoners descending on the palace because your Pc's have whipped them up to riot levels of frenzy with tales of imminent invasion, the nobility will HAVE to do something about it. |
| Radijs01-03-07, 03:28 PM | If I wanted to see a King who wouldn't grant me an audience I'd go about it like this: Option 1: Get a job in the palace/castle. Something unimportant, like a sweeper. After all even the throne room has to be kept clean. Option 2: Break in. Hard depending on what level I am. Especially if it is a large nation which has more money to invest in security. But no killing or stealing. I need to maintain credibility. Option 3: Replace someone who can get close to the king. Preferably without killing that person, Again I need to maintain some credibility. Option 4: Charm and/or dominate my way past the guards and make a grand entrance. |
| jera01-03-07, 03:47 PM | If you have some free Feats to screw around with, you can always use this feat. Thousand Faces Jutsu Type: Ki Source: Dragon #342 You recall and mimic the subtle ki frequencies of others, obscuring your true spirit and clouding the minds of those who view you. Prerequisite: Ghost step (invisible) ability. Benefit: You can spend one daily use of your ki power to change your form for 1 minute, as the spell alter self except the new form must be of your same size and type. You gain none of the movement or combat benefits of the new form. Any wings, fins, or other body parts that grant an actual creature of the chosen kind an alternative form of movement are merely decorative and nonfunctional on you. You can spend two daily uses of your ki power to assume the form of a specific creature of your type for 1 minute. Anyone who knows the specific creature you are emulating gains a bonus on her Spot check to see through your disguise as described on page 73 of the Player's Handbook. |
| OravennasBrother01-03-07, 04:30 PM | See the Elf Ambassador and let HIM carry the news to the king, including (if applicable) the intractible nature of the Councellor who refused to even take a message. |
| Roivas01-03-07, 04:58 PM | Join the advancing armies in the slaughter of this foolish kingdom, then when you get to that wizard shout 'I told ya so!' and end his miserable existance too. Or is the party good? |
| Amon_WinterfallIV01-03-07, 05:06 PM | Well The King needs some way to communicate with the outside world, and its very unlikely that the court magician is the only means to speak to him (that's a sign that the king has been outmanuevered) There is probably another intermediary who can relay the message to the King. Directly Audiancing with the king probably means making concessions for the king's security. One member of the party, stripped of all weapons and all magic items (goes through detect magic, which I believe is foolproof) to meet the king who is heavily guarded. Its reasonable for the King to have audiences in this fashion; but the PC in question had sure better be on good behavior, or he's not long for this world. Yes, If a message needs to be sent to the king and you want to create a mass movement, this also works, although you are likely to distort the message and cause some degree of panic. |
| Thiez01-03-07, 06:41 PM | Keep scry-and-die'ing the court magician and those who replace him until one of his replacements is more reasonable. Alternatively, find a way to charm the magician. |
| Stormbrand01-03-07, 06:43 PM | "This is my information, if you think I am dangerous, shackle me on the way in." Yes, kick up a big fuss about the councillor as well. |
| Orchomenos01-03-07, 07:33 PM | Find the most wanted assassins in this kingdom. Kill them. Bring back their blades to the king. Bringing back one blade should be enough to see him from 200', but bringing back more blades should allow you to get closer, in fact, close enough to kill him! A :cookie: to the first one who find the reference! |
| theotherdraxen01-03-07, 07:39 PM | Find the most wanted assassins in this kingdom. Kill them. Bring back their blades to the king. It's from Hero. Can I have my cookie now? As for seeing the king, why wouldn't a diplomacy check resolve the matter? |
| Truthfatal01-03-07, 07:42 PM | Orchomenos, I don't think he's looking for a Hero's burial. I think approching the Elven ambassador would be the route I took to get a message to the King... Depending on my alignment and level :) *edit beaten to the cookie! |
| FntsyWlkr01-03-07, 08:19 PM | Ah-durnt ... > message > send in a raven > magic mouth a piece of paper and paper airplane it in > prestadigitation neon glowing letters outside of his bedroom window > kidnap a family member and tatoo the message on their body > bard could do a massive performance check and develop a song where the lyrics warn a "king" about the "attack" ... ... or a good ol' "breaking and entering" campaign. Non-lethal damage on the guards ... in fact we have a Nightsong Guild Infiltrator in our group that specializes in JUST breaking and entering. |
| Penchant_Conjurer01-03-07, 08:26 PM | Project image or similar spell. Most throne rooms don't have spells that ward against illusions. Barring that, I'd get a really good bard and lead a parade to the castle. That will at least get him out on the balcony. |
| Regular_K01-03-07, 09:47 PM | Heres an idea, send an animal messenger to the castle and tell it to just place the note on the king's bed. If that doesn't work, then just take care of the plot without the king's permission or help, and eventually they court will find out about the group and the plot against the king. |
| Yodaman2301-03-07, 11:17 PM | See the elf ambassador, get him alone, knock him out, Use his cloths and some time of polymorph or disguise to impersonate him to get to talk to the king. Tell the king about the problem under the guise of the elf then go back to the elf, give him his cloths back, memory wipe him and implant that he was just really drunk and wandered out of the castle. |
| Orchomenos01-04-07, 08:38 AM | It's from Hero. Can I have my cookie now? As for seeing the king, why wouldn't a diplomacy check resolve the matter? http://www.heartoftexasfundraising.com/images/cookie.jpg Here you go! Seriously, discussing with the elf ambassador is probably the best thing to do; unless the elves are involved in the whole plot! Then, FntsyWlkr's simple spells suggestion is great. If everything else fail, then follow Roivas' suggestion: Join the advancing armies in the slaughter of this foolish kingdom, then when you get to that wizard shout 'I told ya so!' and end his miserable existance too. |
