| Jaime_Wolf04-18-07, 12:09 AM | Those in our group have never had the luxury of playing with those more experienced having started our own group from scratch. Especially recently, several people in the group seem to have a lot a lot of trouble roleplaying. By this I don't mean that they don't create compelling characters or interact at all. However, the way it's done just isn't working. People almost never actually say what their characters say, rather, they describe what their characters say, "I tell you that I saw an orc around the corner." The obvious solution would be to stop doing this, but for some reason, the group can't. Now my question, has anyone ever recorded their sessions in any way whatsoever? If so, is anyone willing to share a copy of these recordings? Even a link to gameplay examples would be useful. Textual examples aren't particularly helpful (or at least, haven't been in the past), I'm looking for audio or video in particular. |

| Sathery04-18-07, 01:36 AM | You can always check YouTube. I know that a lot of people post their sessions on there. A lot of it is quite entertaining to see what people do. I seem to have this same problem with my group, though they just don't seem to roleplay that often and I haven't the slightest idea. They haven't really had the luxury of playing with experienced people either. I think that is the main problem. |

| BoringInfoGuy04-18-07, 12:01 PM | We had a player in our group who did this. It bugged the heck out of me for months. Then I realized something. He WAS roleplaying. And doing it well. He was always thinking about how his character was thinking / feeling / reacting to the in game situations. He just wasn't acting out his character. Once I made that realization, it stopped bothering me. It was just his style. |
| Etarnon04-23-07, 01:59 AM | If that really bothers you: As DM, I just suggest "Speak as your character would." Until they do, NPCs ignore anything they say, or ask in character, "I tell you that I saw an orc around the corner." "Oy, mate! Who ye be talking to?" Or blow it off, at least they are playing. Make sure as DM you never break character for NPCs. |
