| Rudigrrr10-10-03, 02:23 PM | Can a player have awaken cast on an animal for them by a druid... i know the awakened animal acts friendly towards the druid and speaks languages he knows, but can the character be present and pay the druid to cast it for an animal for that character??? Rudi |
| Kalanth10-10-03, 03:31 PM | I would say no, just because the spell is designed to only work on the Druid and for the Druid. However, it is your game, and you could change it to fit your whims just because you said so. |
| PenderGrass10-10-03, 04:07 PM | If the animal was 'friendly' towards the original pet-owner - I would allow it, but the awakened creature would have the choice of putting up with the non-druid and if he were abusive then it would probably leave him for the druid. |

To succeed, you must make a Will save (DC 10 + the animal’s current HD, or the HD the tree will have once awakened). The awakened animal or tree is friendly toward you. You have no special empathy or connection with a creature you awaken, although it serves you in specific tasks or endeavors if you communicate your desires to it. . . . An awakened animal gets 3d6 Intelligence, +1d3 Charisma, and +2 HD. Its type becomes magical beast (augmented animal). An awakened animal can’t serve as an animal companion, familiar, or special mount. An awakened tree or animal can speak one language that you know, plus one additional language that you know per point of Intelligence bonus (if any). XP Cost: 250 XP. Yep, Pender has it right. The animal will gain a "full" personality of it's own, and would become an NPC. Though remember that xp cost, so it would be difficult to find a druid that would want to do it. |

| Pongolyn10-10-03, 04:45 PM | Most druids aren't exactly known for being that worldly or easily swayed by gold, so unless it was in the druid's interest to do so, it'd probably be difficult to get them to agree. The awakened animal would be under no obligation to hang around either character as a cohort or companion; there's a difference between being "friendly" toward someone and being a willing henchman that won't leave your side. It's got free will and the intelligence to have its own agenda, so unless someone's sitting on hand with some charm spells, the awakened animal might just amble back into the woods with its new powers. It's a poor investment to make, but if done correctly, I'd say it would be possible. Pongo |

Still, there would have to be a druid to scribe the scroll, which has a greater xp cost than simply casting the spell. On top of that, I don't think there would be many druids (Good Neutral druids anyway) willing to creat a scroll of awaken and not use it themselves. There would simply be too many opportunities for it to be used . . . innapropriately. |
