After some thought and work we have the stats for the character. Now he's interested in a bug swarm as his animal companion. This came about after he noticed the plethora of insects that reside in a single tree. It's a novel concept I have to admit. I'm here to get opinions on the concept and ideas on how to work it. |

The only things that I can think of is that no single insect gives the Tree Druid information, but instead give a sort of "flow" of what is around the area - hard to get the drop on the awakened tree. Of course this isn't much of a bonus to an awakened tree, unless it is really crowded/thickets in the area. Also the swarm wouldn't be stopped by much - sort of use the rules to gaseous form on where they can go and how they can be spotted. You may want to have the swarm attack like a wimpy summon swarm, but the Int and other abilities should fall as the swarm takes damage... Hmmm... If one wants to bump the swarm, you may want to have them drain the tree of hit points (many bugs attack trees), or if they are "tree friendly species" like bees, make it easier to attack their home base (like the hive). Like I said, this (to me) is a really creative combo! |

Though the idea for a swarm familiar is a good one, I can't remember names, but I'm pretty sure there are PrCs that have you running around with a small swarm of insects... Go from there I guess... Or combine the two and have a squirrel swarm familar :twitch: |
