Is this possilbe? Idealy I want a way of dong this (preferable with WotC material) for the current BBEG. I want her to be a Drow cleric (yes I know cliche) with a monsterous spider mount with sorcerour levels. Can this be done?

well the strict rule I think would be no. Awaken affects animals or tree's, and vermin aren't listed as animals, but as vermin. I think because they're said to be mindless.

Now what you could do would be the Drow Cleric has somehow polymorphed the 'mount' into that form, so a former Sorcerer slave or something, who to punish him, the drow cleric has turned him into her mount to serve her. Maybe?

There already is a prestige class for drow clerics that allows them to ride monsterous spiders...

I think it's in the Faiths and Pantheons book. At least I thought it was, but I cann't find the picture there, but I don't see any of the prestige classes from there in the art gallery... maybe Magic of Fearun? But that art gallery isn't there... darn some help I am! Well I know it's somewhere Fearun...

He actually means he wants the mount to be intelligent and able to take class levels...not just a simple mount Prc or not.

As already been stated Awaken only affects Tree/Animals.

But i see no reason to change this if you desire...though if players are unaware could be a little unfair!

I like the idea myself...vermin are fun.

apply a fiendiesh template to it?

The Fiendish template would work marvelously. It boosts the creature's Intelligence to at least 3, meaning it can take class levels. Now, Monstrous Spiders all seem to have Charisma 2, so that could be a problem for the Sorcerer levels.

I guess Awaken Vermin is your best bet. There isn't really anything gamebreaking about this; although one could argue one of the balancing factors of Vermin is their mindless nature, there are guidelines in the back of the Monster Manual for what happens if a specimen ever gains skill points.

just have it boosted with +5 inherent bonus, and a collar of charisma +5. this will allow it to cast the basic sorcerer spells :P And give it a pretty diamond collar to boot LOL

Yes.. yes my pretty..

PUT A LASER ON ITS HEAD.. IS IT SO HARD TO GET A FRICKEN LASER ON A SPIDERS HEAD?
