| Mr_Crepsley06-25-07, 08:28 PM | Hi all, I have a quick question reguarding the Two Weapon Fighting feat. Seth the paladin (a nod to Fire Emblem, as savvy gamers will notice) has the TWF feat. Being sixth level, he gets 2 attacks per round already with his Base Attack Bonus being +6/+1. No problem. SRD - If you wield a second weapon in your off hand, you can get one extra attack per round with that weapon. When fighting in this way you suffer a -6 penalty with your regular attack or attacks with your primary hand and a -10 penalty to the attack with your off hand. If your off-hand weapon is light the penalties are reduced by 2 each. (An unarmed strike is always considered light.) Now, because of TWF, he gets an attack with his off hand, obviously. What is the base attack bonus for the off hand attack. Or, does he not get a second attack with his regular hand, because the penalties for TWF would make his second attack -1? Sorry if my question is vague. |
| Morwen06-25-07, 08:31 PM | The off-hand attack is at his full BAB. So, he would get three attacks, at +4/+4/-1 (assuming his off-hand weapon is light). |
| Salla06-25-07, 08:31 PM | His Base Attack bonus is always +6. One weapon, he attacks at +6, then again at +1, with his main weapon. With Two Weapon Fighting, he attacks at +4 and -1 with his main hand and +4 with his offhand, assuming his offhand weapon is light. |

| Salla06-25-07, 08:41 PM | Ok, thank you. I just wasnt sure that it was possible to have a negative BAB. The character in this example doesn't have a negative BAB. His BAB remains 6. However, it is possible for penalties to take his total attack bonus below zero. (Also note that our examples don't include his STR bonus or magic weapons or anything else that would add to his attack bonus and take it back over zero.) |
| Mr_Crepsley06-25-07, 08:45 PM | Yes, i know that his BAB doesnt change, it is the penelties incured from fighting with two weapons that puts his second primary handed attack into negative 1. |
| Mr_Crepsley06-25-07, 08:49 PM | And STR bonuses are for damage, not BAB, if i am not mistaken SRD- A one-handed weapon can be used in either the primary hand or the off hand. Add the wielder’s Strength bonus to damage rolls for melee attacks with a one-handed weapon if it’s used in the primary hand, or ½ his or her Strength bonus if it’s used in the off hand. If a one-handed weapon is wielded with two hands during melee combat, add 1½ times the character’s Strength bonus to damage rolls. |
| Vaelan06-25-07, 08:54 PM | Your Strength modifier also applies to attack rolls, with the exception of some ranged attacks. |
