I got interested in D&D not long ago, only about three months, and since I've been DMing to my brother and his friends, because I can't find anyone who wants to DM. I'm not complaining, because I love it.

Anyway, I wanted to ask a question or two concerning how much stuff characters can carry. For some items it doesn't show the weight, and either way, I can't figure out how much the max is anyway. I don't have the DM Guide, only the PHB 3.5. Is there something I don't know? Or is it unlimited?

Well Minion you have everything you need in the PHB. Look in the Adventuring chapter and you'll find the tables that show the Max loads a character can carry. For things that don't show weight, ignore it. It's probably insignificant. Armor, weapons, and equipment encumbrance doesn't come up all that often, but it's handy to know what your PC can carry, and how much he weighs on that rickety rope and plank bridge over the Chasm of Fiery Doom...

I only have the PHB 3.0 and there is a chapter called "adventuring" there u find tables concerning carying capascity. How much you can carry is influenced by your strenght modifier, and whatever u got to carry stuff with.
But it isn't likely that u could carry a treasure chest on your shoulder just because it don't weigh that much. U have to concider the volum capacity of your backpack f.eks or if it's posible to carry it at all. Lets say that one of your pc's finds a chest full of gems. But it's to wide to reach around, and it most certainly don't fit in your backpack. Just beacaus it don't surpass ones "lift over head" limit he may be forced to drag the chest all the way out.
Did I answer your question?
