So I was wonering if anyone could, if possible, aid me with my DemiBBEGs intro speach. I realise this is really vague, so just ask if theres anything in specific you need to know. |
| Prator_The_Golden11-29-07, 07:56 PM | ...Well, who or what is the BBEG, and what does he want to tell the PCs? That would be a good start... |
| Space_Dragon11-29-07, 08:03 PM | Seconded. |
| MasonMurdoc11-29-07, 08:37 PM | I'll go through he main plot basics, just to make things easier. Theres a really evil god, who is nameless at the moment so shall be called Arciteth. He has been bound to the moon, by the D&D pantheon, and wants out.. Asmoeous, an Mephistopheles are fighting each other to gain said gods powers, by some kind of ancient artifact. About half of Demonknd revere Arciteth, so he has an them as his army, along with loads of aberations. The guy I need the speach for is Arciteth's prophet, and enforcer. The party were brought back from the dea by some ark means, by Asmodeous' boys, and now the prophet has transported them to a dark empty dimensional space. Possibly in the Abyss somewhere, or part of the Gods own realm. He may be in charge of said realm while Arciteth is preoccupied. Anyway, the prophet has claimed the party as his tools and will tell them that. This speach isn't so much an big evil ialogue scene, but more of a explaination of what's he wants of hem and stuff. I'm gonna write something up myself first, then I'l post in n here for critique. |
| AngelofCthulhu11-29-07, 09:11 PM | That is super vague... But I will try! This is something I would do: "Welcome, WELCOME, welcome gentlemen and ladies. I hope your trip was not too... chaotic. Running about through the endless moil of conflict can be so bothersome Yet, is it not necessary? Are we not BORN of conflict? Look at you, standing here before me, you know I am right? It is through chaotic conflict that you gained your strength. It is through battle that grow and become stronger. And that is why you are here right now." Insert explanations in the same grandiose sounding vein. |
| runestar11-29-07, 09:20 PM | Don't get too hung up on power-drunk speeches - PCs are notorious for interrupting villains in mid soliloquy. You are just giving them time to orient themselves and prep for battle.;) |
| AngelofCthulhu11-29-07, 09:25 PM | That happened once, after I went on for six full minutes. The guy eventually just shouted "SHUT UP!" Most. Hilarious. Thing. Ever. Also, just banished people who attack before the BBEG is done talking, unless you are about to battle. |
| cinnamonator11-29-07, 10:36 PM | I'd write it out and give it to your players to read. Tell them that the speech is delivered to them telepathically. |
| MasonMurdoc11-30-07, 06:28 AM | Thanks for the tips. I ended up writing something up myself. It's no his evil speech, but just his recruitment speech. Here it be: *Party gain consiousness* Welcome. This is where you shall be tested. If you pass the test, I shall allow you to fight for the cause. If not...well...I'm sure you can figure that one out yourselves. Unfortunatly, I am unable to give you details. Not until I feel you've earned high enough rank in this humble order. Now... *Summons 6-8 Dretches, party fight* Good, good. You shall speak to a man named Smythe. Alex Smythe. He will tell you what to do next. Now. Go. *Everything fades out, and here in a field wth a town in view* I'd like to hear what you think, and what could be changed. He's quite dark. He wears rusted armour, an he mask he wears has no eye holes, just a small mouth hole. The mask is shaped like Slades from Teen Titans. |

| lifeblender11-30-07, 01:07 PM | That sounds like a good setup for an adventure start. Be sure to have a few remarks ready if they players try to talk with him, like "In time, in time..." or "You appear to have more pressing business at the moment." They'll get the hint. For the truly impressive speeches, you can use the same mechanics that players can use when they have charismatic characters but aren't good talkers themselves. Tell your players what the BBEG talks about. Give them some adjectives for his speech, like "heartfelt", "callous", "ridiculous", "single-minded", or "contempt-filled". Roll or take a 10 on his Intimidate, Diplomacy, or Perform (oratory), and tell the players how moved or disturbed they are (although you're not affecting the players, just judging his performance using the roll). Let them fill in the details in their heads from there. This can play out as follows: "He talks with pain about the pain and suffering of his people, and the blind eye that the world turned to them. He gleefully describes his rise to power, and reviles your actions against him. He gestures to his minions and declares that your fate is sealed. This man is clearly deluded, but clearly a vile threat to the world. The weapons of his followers are poised to act on his word. He raises his hands..." [Here players should frantically indicate their actions in the first round.] And that way you avoid actually giving or even writing the speech. |
| setekh11-30-07, 01:35 PM | "You know what, I had this long speech planned out, I was going to mock you and cajole you and knock you down, but I had a better idea..." *Quickened fire ball* To the nine hells with speeches, actions speak louder than words. Especially if those actions are Energy substitution : sonic. |
| CryoSilver11-30-07, 01:37 PM | "What the hell are you doing in my house? Didn't you see the no trespassing sign? I'm going to call the Watch, see if I don't! This is breaking and entering! Get out of my house!" |

I think I'll go with that iea frm now on, as I couldn't pull of the dark, sinister, an down righ evil that he deserves. |
