The resident CG Mage in the party got Baleful Polymorphed into a Rabbity by a Red Dragon. The question I have is that his Int is reduced from 26 to 1.......does this mean that he has no recollection of his prior life? In other words, he thinks he's just a bunny?

Or does it just make him vastly inferior in the intellect department. Would he recognize his former party members? Or would he react to them as a Rabbit would.

Well yeah, it's bunny-ville for mind town.

Fail the Fort save, take on form of bunny,
Fail the Will save, take on mind of bunny.

Hope they can find a good price on break enchantment.

So that is your fault? ;)

My reading of this is that the player's mind has been reduced to that of a rabbit. I doubt he can even think about metaphysical concepts like "I am a rabbit." He just acts on base instinct - something like 1) eat 2) make rabbits 3) sleep (rabbits are really stupid). If it was a dog, I would probably allow him to search for familiar people (i.e. the party), but he wouldn't remember their scents (as he couldn't smell them properly before becoming a dog) unless he has spent time near them after being BPed. He probably won't even realize that he is a very badass rabbit (even with only mage levels, he can probably become a lord among rabbits), and will run away from anything threatening (like other PCs).

I most certainly am the cause of that "What's A Player To Do" thread. I figured that he'd have the mind of a bunny. But it's not explicity covered in the rules. It doesn't say you "have the mind of a bunny" it merely says you acquire the Int,Wis & Cha scores of your new form. So I don't know.

I would say the wizard has a pretty good udnerstanding of who and what he used to be, and would recognize who his allies are. If they know what form he took, it shouldn't take a genius to figure out the unusually affectionate rabbit is their old friend.

Int, wis and cha represents the mind of someone. So he does get bunny mind. Of course, the bunny could recognise his fellow PCs and think of them as not that dangerous. Now, this is a good chance to get a nice pet, don't ruin it with break enchantment! ;)

The last time something like this happened, the wizard PC was polymorhped into a snake by a Yuan-Ti abberation, then kept as a pet in a jar. When a P later stuch his hand down the jar the PC snake, thinking it was the abberation, bite him. Since the snake later tried to communicate with them, they picked him up and took him with them, but they never found out it was their friend so the player made a new character :evillaugh

Without excessive metagaming, he might be familar with his fellow party members although he'd react to them like a rabbit. So think about how a pet rabbit would react around people that they recognized.

But, even wtih that, the bunny is not going to specifically seek out the party of anything liek that. This is why toads are good -- they don't end up moving as fast and are a lot easier to catch.

Take a look at the feeblemind spell. It specifically states it brings a person down to 1 int. It goes on to say 'It knows who its friends are and can follow them and even protect them.' Now obviously a bunny can't protect its friends, but it would be able to recognise them. So the PC would likely hop around happily, eating grass and trying to make baby rabbits, until the group picked it up and it happily became their pet, instinctively knowing them to be trustworthy (assuming the person didn't hate their group before.)

Well yeah I know feeblemind says that, BUT he's not being feebleminded. He's not LOSING Int he's GAINING the Int of his new form.

True, but rabbits can recognize particular humans. Just pick up somebody's bunny who is not use dot you and see how differently it acts. Now this wouldn't likely lead to the rabbit seeking out the party (although a Dog or Wolf might do just that) but it woulod make tracking it down considerably easier.

The bunny will recognize friendly primates and wonder if they have a carrot for it. Then be shocked when it turns into a primate. It makes the chasing the rabiit issue easier assuming that they can locate it in the first place (this will require a spell).

Well I meant mental faculty of bunny.

I partially agree it's almost like being feeble minded, not quite as bad mentally. I use a modified cat for rabbit stats. so, He'd have intelligence 2, Wisdom 12, or so. He'd still have his base attack, skill points and feats. (just new modifiers.) He wouldn't have any good plans, or think of anything too complex.

He wouldn't have a lot of bunny instincts which is in his favor actually. But he might realize he should go find the people he likes. He wouldn't run from his buddies if he knew it was them.
