| Sargon11-04-05, 01:19 AM | The Witches of Rasheman have decreed that all of the best warriors in shall hold a turnament, As the old King as died with no heir. The winner of the tournament well be the new king. I'm asking some of you to sumbit som 10-15 lvl barbarian builds for the fighters in the tournament. IT doesn't have to be fancy just within standard rule creation... If anyone is intrested i'll keep you up to date on who wins and if any of your build will become the new king of rashamen in my CS. (for what its worth to you.) |
| yellowdingo11-04-05, 01:57 AM | Barbarians are more likely to just toss ya ina pit and throw rocks to wake the wolverines. In the case of your scenario, the 10th level fighter gets tossed in the pit when he has been beaten down to 7 hp on the battlefield. "Go sum fiyt inya yet huh?" Kang kicked the body of the destroyer of Rykstag into the Wolverine filled pit. "Wolverines neyd feydin!" A rock from Kang bounced up the side of a sleeping Wolverine waking the hungry creature. |

As to the OP, I have been tossing around the idea of a barbarian/ninja that came to mind when trying to guess what a figure in a statue I have would be. I might use it as an NPC sometime, but if I have some extra time I'll draw up some stats for it and post them here. If you want, I can even toss in the barebones backstory; this character is, again, based off of a statue, so it is quite basic and semi-lame but should at least be mildly amusing should my entry win the tournament and you want to use it as the new king. |
| MarkB11-04-05, 05:18 AM | I can see this now. After five minutes, the only builds left standing are the Frenzied Berserkers, all well into double-figure negative HPs. Eventually, they beat each other into a pulp until there is only one left, who dies after his rage ends. Sorry, that was needlessly cynical - I'm sure the tournament will go well. Feel free to use the 11th-level pre-gen character from one of my games, halfling barbarian Holfam Ralzar (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/m.blunden/dnd/bonds/broken.htm), though you may have to swap out a few Eberron-specific feats and items. He's a generic build, not optimised, so chances are he'll be cannon-fodder, but every tournament needs cannon fodder. :D |

Barbarian cultures do not hold tournaments. The witch might announce that they must challenge for the Position of new king over the Month of "Mourning" and these individuals will probably "encounter" one another to conduct the testing of who gets to be king with a witch "Showing up" to watch the fight to ensure it is all above board. At no time would there ever be open martial combat to the death in a formal tournament at a specified location. Showing up at a location where your enemies lie in wait with plans to kill you was considered fatal. That doesnt mean there are not historical references to other types of tourney occuring in a predesignated location. History offers up the Excalibur challenge where individual compeditors were sent to the hill where Merlin waited with excalibur yet to be freed from the rock it was cast in. The legend also points out the political damage caused when a distant lord was not invited to the tournament to decide the high king. What Saragon is looking for is a gathering of the Clans. Where every one went to interact and party, get drunk with old friends, family and have a bit of umpired brawling. Chiefs would show up with their family shield. It is however the responsibility of Saragon to decide these things as DM. Besides, if you think Untgar witchkiller is going to fight for the pleasure of witches while there is work to be done freeing his peoples from these goatrutted Crones, think again. |
| Tholamin11-04-05, 06:52 AM | Is this meant to be an idea for a setting or a request for boardreaders to make some barbarians to fill your setting (wich you'll likely throw in as contenders to throw at a party you're DM-ing) cause if you like us to make some barbarians you might want to set dome rules ;-) , like: *pointbuy x point for the abilities.. *how much the minimum lvl's of barbarian it should have, or barbarian only (wich btw would make most very similar) *What setting... (standard DnD, Eberron, others) for feat/class/races sake *Only core races or whatever you can find i'd be happy to whip something up but give me some boundaries ;-) |

Must have 6 levels of Barbarian (so that gives you 4-9 levels to play with) Limited to two Class level of Frenzy. This is a home brew (that draws heavly on FR ) so feel free to use FRCS material. Also Complete books are allowed. I had concidered the idea of these warriors encountering each other, but I havn't decided exactly what the setting will be,. more likely a Calling of Tribes (though it is understood not all tribes will appear and some may even use the gathering to do .... not nice stuff.) The Battle will not be to the death, but if the participants both declare to the death then it wil be. (for example if two rival tribes are set against each other.) The only thing i ask is that not everyone submit a 15 level NPC if you can optimize your build at 13 or 13 or 14 then do. |
| Thynass11-04-05, 04:19 PM | Barbarian cultures do not hold tournaments. Why not? |
| DaveReaves11-04-05, 05:10 PM | Barbarian cultures do not hold tournaments. I'm also stumped as to why you think a culture would have something against tournaments. Chaotic does not mean "incapable of organization" any more than evil means "slaughter babies on sight." Also, just because the society spawns people who have the barbarian class does not mean that the society is all barbarians. Watching the show Going Tribal I saw the African tribe whatshisname was living with participating in a contest (in fact a contest of fighting skill) that had a system of rules and procedures. This contest involved other tribes as well, and they all managed to get together at the appointed time and did their thing. A contest in a barbaric society. Its completely feasible, happens today and most assuredly happened in the past. |
| capnwoodrow11-04-05, 06:26 PM | Barbarian cultures do not hold tournaments. I think he meant historically Barbarian culture did not have martial tournaments do decide anything. But seeing as it is your game, Brb/Sor ftw! |
