| Jayr03-06-05, 04:37 PM | 0 feet, unless said otherwise. The common races can only swim at one-quarter their land speed with a sucessful Swim check every round. |
| Board_Rider03-06-05, 06:11 PM | 3.5 PHB pg.. 84 has swim speeds at one-half land speed. If a swim check is failed by 4 or more....you go nowhere.Fail by 5 or more and you are under water. Moving one-half your land speed is a full round action. Moving one-quarter your speed, as Jayr wrote, is a move acton. |
| MinusInnocence03-06-05, 09:39 PM | The reason most creatures don't have a listed Swim speed is because the system is set up to reward creatures with such a movement type to all sorts of bonuses. Anyone with a Swim speed still needs to be making checks every round, but they are still entitled to take 10 even when threatened; in addition, they get a +8 racial bonus to said checks under certain circumstances. They can even "Run" underwater. |
