| Grogmir07-20-07, 09:32 AM | Hi guys Well I’m covering the DM while he’s off on holiday, so I’m running a quick 15th level Battle Royale over two weeks. You get the picture – Evil God has gathered hero’s from time and space to battle it out for their freedom. Anyway, I want it to be a seriously cheesy clichés riddled affair. So what ones can you think of? So far I’ve got a Maze time scene (going to be Harry Potter influenced), A Wizards tower that is like the one from Labyrinth (Including the Wizard in tight trousers!) Plus silly little side things like a Princess that has been turned into a Frog, (if they manage to turn him back will give you info etc) But I need other instantly recognisable clichéd situations, so I’m raiding your collective minds. Ok Ok I’m just bored on this Friday afternoon – but still humour me! Grogmir. |
| maharai2307-20-07, 12:45 PM | A carriage enchanted to cast delay blast fireball if anyone tries to leave it or if it slows below 55 ft/round. (Speed) An armored outsider with the cold subtype that shoots polar rays every round. (Mr. Freeze) A new unsinkable boat hits an iceberg, and a really annoying rogue drowns. |
| Orchomenos07-20-07, 01:53 PM | -A self-propelled carriage with an illusory horse and driver, and that transformed into a golem. (Transformers) -A large scale chess game. -A cute red-haired female NPC with a white lock. When she touches people, she drains 1d6 point of their highest ability score and add this to her own ability score. (Rogue from X-Men) -A doppleganger who's true form is that of a blue chick (Mystique from X-Men) -A monster emerging from an NPC's chest (Alien). -A construct-doppleganger made of liquid metal. (Terminator's T-1000) -A bounty-hunter specialised in humanoid replicas (Blade Runner) -A PC who realises all his background is an implented memory. (Total Recall) -An NPC who announce that anything the PCs know is a large illusion: if they take the blue potion, they will return to their normal life, if they take the red potion, they will learn about the true reality. (Matrix) -A large, black rectangular figure, which dimension are 1x4x9 (2001 Space Odissey) -A challenge where a bowman has to hit an apple on the head of his son. (William Tell) -Following the White Rabbit (Alice in Wonderland, The Matrix) -A Chariot Race (Ben-Hur) -A Big-nose bard/swashbuckler (Cyrano de Bergerac) -A large black man who's afraid of the dark, and name himself Jack Coffey (The Green Mile) |
| EvanFrostheart07-20-07, 02:37 PM | -Disbelieving political figure discovers existence of evil wizard and shouts, "He's back!" -Adventurers make it past Cerberus, lot of assassin vines, find a flying key with a fly spell to catch it, figure out which of 12 potions will not make the pc explode, and finally get a philosopher's stone but get sucked into a mirror of life trapping owned by a half-fiend lich who has possessed a formerly true neutral sorcerer with a turban fetish. -One pc befriends a stone giant and helps it imprison the big mean hill giants. -As a foreign army made up of mainly cavalry charges for the party, the party paints their faces blue and decides to "HOLD, HOLD, HOLD, HOLD, GRRRRRAAAAGGGHHH!!!! -A bunch of blonde socialist dwarves make ridiculous flying contraption and blitz a major city with large, sealed, metal tubes filled with 100 lbs. or more of gunpowder. |
| Ecalsneerg07-20-07, 03:00 PM | Zombie hordes, zombie hordes, zombie hordes, werewolf. 'Nuff said. |
| Orchomenos07-20-07, 03:41 PM | Zombie hordes, zombie hordes, zombie hordes, werewolf. 'Nuff said. You forget the kick-ass vampire chick who kill them all, and her emo friend who transform into the hell of a vampire/werewolf mix. -There's the green-skinned goblin villain with a bunch of gadget, including a flying carpet firing lightning bolts. For some reason, he refer to himself as The Disguised Man, and he hates spiders. |
| Sci_fi__Messiah07-20-07, 03:52 PM | Zombie hordes, zombie hordes, zombie hordes, werewolf. 'Nuff said. Hellyeah, I'd play that! A player has been cursed and can't stop doing extreme stuff or he'll die. And he sets out to take revenge upon the caster who did this to him. (Crank) And don't forget the Chester Bennington cameo. |
| Vharuck07-20-07, 04:07 PM | I think people are confusing allusions for cliches (I have no idea how to do that frenchy "e"). But they'd still be funny. I like the Speed carriage, and may use it one day to get a laugh from my players. |
| Kaligrad07-20-07, 07:24 PM | ...And in the end, everyone learns a lesson about teamwork and fair play! |
| Orchomenos07-20-07, 08:12 PM | -There's this devoted cute blind girl, dressed in yellow because it keeps monsters away (how does she knows she's dressed in yellow if she's blind?). She wants to go to "The Towns" to get some medicament for her boyfriend... (The VIllage) -Don't forget this drow fighting with twin scimitars! |
| Alltat07-20-07, 09:14 PM | You obviously need a wise old wizard who is too busy telling the party things they already figured out, instead of using his powers to actually help. And a cat in boots with an astronomical Bluff skill. All twins are obviously evil. And identical. And everyone has at least one (can you have two evil triplets?) They'll probably try to steal your girlfriend. The youngest son in any family which has something worth inheriting will invariably be chaotic good, and much more competent than his older brothers. Or at least luckier. Add a +2 bonus to everything a character does if he happens to be the youngest son. All stepmothers are evil. No exceptions. Ever. Don't accept apples from them. In fact, pretty much all female spellcasters who are not your godmother are evil. Speaking of which, there may or may not be a fae mob run by the fairy godfather. Any damsel encountered will be in distress. If rescued, she will expect marriage and happiness ever after. And finally, the bard has left the building. ...A Wizards tower that is like the one from Labyrinth (Including the Wizard in tight trousers!) Will he do the Dance! Magic dance! too? |
| 12Shark07-20-07, 09:19 PM | Dystopian Government gasses busload (or cartload) of young adults, ships them to island. Arms them and forces them to fight to the death, on pain of death. (Battle Royale :P) |
| Grogmir07-23-07, 07:11 AM | Hey Hey Guys – Thanks for the great ideas! So far this is the set – up. There are three PC’s… Them along with 2 other characters have just been transported to a planar prison with a battle royale! LOLOL… sorry evil DM laugh. The other two include Sir Lancelot and an evil Dwarven Stomlord cleric. There are already three players in the ‘game’ Roard – Barb 7 / Bear War 6 / Warshaper 4. and eye of Ghruumsh and a sneaky gnome bard. The evil Jailers are a Paladin 10 /Blackguard 10 and a Sorc 6 Blood Magus 10 plus the BBEG that I haven’t got stat’d out yet. Current situations they will fight…. All those that are evil will have to fight YODA! LOL…. ‘Fight me.. You will’ (His stats 6, 30 , 12, 30 , 30 , 20) For mechanics he’s a swash 7 Monk 9 but I’ve given him a bunch of feats etc. All the characters will have to take on Napoleon at Waterloo – Hopefully this is where Sir Lancealot will go out the game. Boney will be an Undead Wizard Warlock thinging. There will be a Labyrinth Wizards tower where the four sides are random and switch you to another plane - you will also have to do that who’s lying routine to get into the tower. There will be a Garden style Harry potter maze with the same kinda stuff in (the mist that turns you up side down etc!) plus at the end the ‘Green Former Prince’ the Frog! Also the way to break the illusion will be for both competing teams to touch the winning post together. There will be a mini maze which will have an Indian jones style trap and a ‘holy grail’ room with a twist – the old one WONT be the grail. They will just have to cast a spell to realise which one it is. Hopefully they will fall into this metagaming trap. I like the Alien thing – will have that at some point. Perhaps to prolong a combat. LOLOL… drat that evil laugh again. I love the Carriage Speed idea – think I will work this into a combined challenge where they need to keep it on a track, In a valley above the right speed so one of the party can fire an arrow/spell called (Force) that will break the enchantment. Of course there will also be the usual assortment of Dragons + classic monsters. What I am lacking at the moment is a Classic Cheesy BBEG ending. I’m wracking my brain. I will Defo get him when he’s near death to say to one of the PC’s ‘don’t kill me, I’m your Father!’ but I need some actions that are instantainsly recognisable. Hofully mixing 2 or 3 classic BBEG. Any ideas? Oh and at the right end I will say ‘You awake, you are back wherever you where before, the Sun is stremming through the window and your grateful, for it was all a dream!. I also need a name for this I wanted to adapt the Buffy line ‘Welcome to Slayer feast 98’ How about ‘Welcome to Hero Feast 98’? OOOOooooo Turn the lightbulb above my head on…. How about a Krypton Factor style ‘Assualt’ course. Really make use of them Jump skills! LOL.. Cheers for now Grogmir. |
| Passivearmada08-10-07, 09:55 AM | Dystopian Government gasses busload (or cartload) of young adults, ships them to island. Arms them and forces them to fight to the death, on pain of death. (Battle Royale :P) I LOVE Battle Royale. The participants were only 15 years old, but I guess you could call them young adults. |
| Bozwevial08-10-07, 10:06 AM | -Adventurers make it past Cerberus, lot of assassin vines, find a flying key with a fly spell to catch it, figure out which of 12 potions will not make the pc explode, and finally get a philosopher's stone but get sucked into a mirror of life trapping owned by a half-fiend lich who has possessed a formerly true neutral sorcerer with a turban fetish. You forgot the conjurer's chessboard (CW) and the already dead troll. Also, I think he'd be a half-fiend yuan-ti lich. More snake-like. Okay, more ideas... An evil, black armored and helmeted character armed with a vorpal, flaming, brilliant energy longsword. And asthma. |
| Pippa08-10-07, 10:44 AM | LOLOLThat's not how you laugh. Evil DMs go: MWHAHAHAHAHAHA or even: MUHAHAHAHAHA. Anyway, you need a ghostly apparition of a slain comrade/lover that joins in the battle when the need is high. A disabled ally with a repeating crossbow that will hold the zombie hordes busy while the rest can flee. With cheesy line. When the party is defending a narrow passage, let the attackers give way to let the rhinoceros through! You need a rope-bridge across a chasm, with either lava or a crocodile-infested river at the bottom. And a shark-tank. Someone has to say 'hasta la vista'. Put a hooded man in every corner of every inn. And if there is time left, cue the feminist amazons. Oh, and have the one in shiny fullplate worshiped as a god by a savage tribe. And let the latter attempt to prepare the rest of the party as a meal. |
| Ace the Dead08-10-07, 02:05 PM | A team of teenage sorceresses with unusual hair and eye color wearing sailor fuku (Japanese schoolgirl uniforms), and have renamed all their spells with really crazy nonsense (possibly in Japanese). Crazy over the top dialogs a must, and consider giving them cooperative spell. "In the name of love and beauty, I shall stop you, doer of evil things! Flawless Five-Star Burst [magic missile]" It won't work with every group, but if you've got any anime fans... |
| Arcane Guyver08-10-07, 02:26 PM | You should put in a pair of humans...one being an ass-kicking monk who specializes in tumbling & using improvised weapons, but with a limited grasp of common. The other is a loudmouthed bard who will not shut up even if you pay him. Seedy bar run by vampires that go nuts and feed on the hapless travelers when night falls. Mmm, not too good at this. OH HEY, have you seen that anime Gantz? That's prime D&D material...! Every so often when somebody dies, their body disappears and they appear in a private tavern room with an adamantine ball that radiates an antimagic field. Once all such 'contestants' are gathered together in the room, the ball opens up to reveal hidden weaponry & special armor, tells the 'players' to kill a certain monster, then teleports them back into the middle of town. Only the 'players' and the target monster are invisible, and if the players leave the chosen area, their heads explode. If they don't kill the monster within the time limit, their heads explode. I smell a sadistic campaign in the making... |
| Radijs08-10-07, 05:58 PM | This guy should be there (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0091369/Ss/0091369/060622_02.jpg.html?path=gallery&path_key=0091369) |
| Werral08-11-07, 11:29 AM | I think people are confusing allusions for cliches (I have no idea how to do that frenchy "e"). You write the "s" but don't pronounce it. Okay so obviously they have to find the one true magical maguffin to stop big evil boots. You could have a good drow with two scimitars. A magic lamp with three wishes. An iron gollem sent from the future to protect them. They could be hunted by the authorities for a crime they ARE GOING to commit. |
