| the burrfoot08-28-05, 03:01 PM | When dming a war it's difficult for me, i dont know which way is best running it...mass combat when ure PC's are part of a regiment or small encounters around the battle field where the PC's take on small regiments of soldiers... |
| Amene08-28-05, 03:10 PM | It depends, are your PCs a unit? are they generals? are they lonely assasins trying to take down the opposing general? I Usually go with the approach that they are generals, and engage in the middle of the battle with the opposing generals, with random catapult and crossbow ammo falling near them (I randomly hit them from time to time with catapults, but with a spot check they do realize and are able to avoid it). I know this is not realistic (generals fighting in the front lines? never... well almost never) but it's more heroic. |
| TheErsatzFacsimileOfMe08-28-05, 03:29 PM | I usually plot out a few encounters with groups from the opposing armies, I don't run mass combat and don't really like any of the systems I've seen to deal with that type of combat. |
