This because the feat Mounted Combat, entails that the rider can make a ride check to negate the damage done to the horse. In other words it's easier (if there's not some def bonus) to hit the rider and be done with it... |
| fatal error09-18-05, 05:27 PM | Off the top of my head I'd say mounted characters should get a +4 to defense, since they have high ground from being on the horse, and a little bit of cover from being on it as well. But maybe just a +2, their real strength is getting ride by attack and simply never getting hit due to running in and out. Not to mention, they're dealing tons of damage with lances when using ride by attack. |
| RubberDuckie09-18-05, 05:45 PM | High ground only applies to your attack roll (+1 bonus), when the defender is of equal size or smaller than the rider. Riders do not receive an Armor Class bonus. Even while using Mounted Combat (which just works once a round anyway), the rider is usually harder to hit, since riders are smaller, wear armor and can wear a shield. |

Cover: You can react instantly to drop down and hang alongside your mount, using it as cover. You can’t attack or cast spells while using your mount as cover. If you fail your Ride check, you don’t get the cover benefit. This usage does not take an action. |
