| AlphaMagic05-05-05, 09:21 PM | Well i came across this idea that while the Adventurers were about doing quest for other people that at the same time they would be foiling the bbegs plans, now i like this idea alot but frankly i cant think of any Quests that could work under these circumstances. I ask you, people of the board to help me with this idea. |
| Wishim Clubfoot05-05-05, 09:28 PM | It could be something simple as in "take this chest across the ocean" or something like that... and assume that the chest contains a magical artifact required for the bbeg's evil plans :p Ooh, here is an idea I am working on in my campaign.. well my pc's are in a barbarian tribe whose diety is the griffon... and well the pc's are told to go retrieve a griffon egg (knowing full well its an impossiable task) its part of their maturity... and well when they get there the griffon is getting handed by a group of orcs, so the pc's are are going to dispatch of them... but perhaps the blue goblin wizard whom is the bbeg wants the griffon captured so he can dominate it into becoming his pet... therefore forcing the barbarian tribe to serve him in his quest to unite all the goblin tribes and rid the world of them pesky elves.... Hehe ooh I like this idea :p I hope this might help... |
| Nightgaunt05-05-05, 09:28 PM | There is probably an INSANE number of quests that could cause this. For example, you could have them find the cure for some sickness some noble has, and maybe they never discover the BBEG was the one who caused it in the first place. They could solve a murder and catch the people involved, if in the chaos of the battle the criminals die instead of getting caught, you never find out they were some of the BBEG top henchmen (maybe good aristocrats rather then mercenaries, a bookkeeper is killed or something). Maybe a cart-load of spell components was going to be robbed and the PC's stopped the attack (either because they were paid guards or because they ran in to it), ruining the evil mages chance for the components he desperately needed to finish his ritual. Perhaps the PC's stop a farmers land from dying because of an Ankheg infestation, never realizing that the BBEG was trying to drive the farmer out so he could take his land that has the ancient crypt of the Sal' Dural Order of the Lich in it. (and when I say dying I really mean the farmer's crops not the land, I hear Ankheg is good for land) Infinite I tells ya, infinite. Does this help? |

| High Octane05-05-05, 09:43 PM | Ahhhh having them foil a BBEG's plans just by doing their job. Good fun. "YOU FOILED MY GREATEST PLANS HEROES!" ".....who the hell are you?" "I am Corinus! Your mortal enemy!" "....seriously, any of you guys know this guy?" "No." "Nooooo......" "Yes. He is Corinus." "Did you know him BEFORE he said that??" "Oh. Um, Nope." The adventurers may simply deliver something that the BBEG wasnt planning on being there. Such as a shipment of bolts for the crossbows of the town guard. The BBEG was counting on them running out of bolts. Or perhaps they delivered the message that said the BBEG was going to attack the town. Or even better, they sold the ogre-slaying sword to the blacksmith who gave it to the paladin who killed the ogre-magi's brother. Or maybe, they bought the LAST batch of the final ingredient for the BBEG's brew. Or a competing bard gets mad when the groups bard sings in town and now no one wants to listen to him. Or the PCs pick up a magic relic that they have no idea is a relic. They just think its some sort of gold tidbit they found in an old abandonned temple. How would they know it could be used to raise an evil god? |
