| MindLich05-28-06, 06:14 PM | Please I need help on this BBEG. Ok brief story: The PCs were hired by the town leader to find and exterminate the origin of the source that makes children disapear in the graveyard. So after some sessions of investigation they find that they will be turned into zombies by the BBEG, ocasionally a Human Necromancer. The party is composed by: -Fighter Lvl 2 -Rogue Lvl 2 -Cleric of Torm Lvl 3 -Wizard Lvl 3 -Ranger Lvl 4 Both parties are warned and have time to prepare accordingly. Which could be a very good build for the wizard that doesn't completly overpower the PCs and does he need minions if so how much and which ones? Thanks, I'm posting this in the CharOp Boards for the build and in the What's a DM to Do? for miscelanious things like how could the enviroment and all else be. Thanks again. |

Since your necromancer is creating zombies, he would need the spell Animate Deads, which is 4th level arcane spell; a wizard would need to be level 7 to cast that, which is IMHO too high compared to your PCs. But Animate Deads is also a 3rd level divine spell, so a 5th level cleric could cast that. Give your cleric the Evil domain, so he can cast Desecrate and create stronger undeads, and make them more difficult to turn. As for minions, give the necromancer all the zombies he could have create in one shot, that should make the job. Also, have 2-3 children now be level 1 clerics. Their only purpose would be to bolster undeads, and heal them with Inflict spells. That would be really disturbing for the PCs to discover some missing children turned into acolytes. |

This is interesting, but their stats would be screwy, they shouldn't be clerics, maybe adepts, but not clerics. Skeletons are good, and they are easy to upgrade, just give them armor, sheilds, and weapons that deal more damage. Zombies are too slow and are vulnerable to to many weapons in the Damage Reduction catagory. Simple things can take down adventurers at this level, sleep or fear spells, poison, and a pair of negative levels kills them, use that. Wights, poison traps (or gas traps), and the use of sleep/fear spells by the necromancer, he doesn't even have to worry about hitting the minions, they are immune to almost everything. |

I like the idea about the children clerics but wouldn't that be very very powerful in combination with the BBEG. Also, my friends are very new to the game so I have only the Ranger, Wizard and Cleric controlled by them. I have the Rogue and the Fighter as NPC aiding them. As my friends are new they don't really know tactics very well so the encounter should be a little less powerful than average. |

| freeholder05-28-06, 07:59 PM | Have the PCs able to disable the purple crystle so he cant summon undead earlier, make it opptional but highly recomended. This would make the encounter eaisier and allow the PCs to be satisfied when the necromancer attempts to summon more undead, possibly with interesting results, good way to end encounter if it looks bad. |

Have the necromancer use a "Save or Die" spell on either the rogue or the fighter; next round, have the necromancer use his purple crystal on the fallen friend, sending him against the PCs! This way, the player will understand how evil the necromancer is! Since he's using an item to create the zombies, the necromancer could be a 5th level wizard. In this option, use Spectral Hand with Chill Touch, Ghoul Touch & Vampiric Touch from a distance. |

I would really like to implement the "Save or Die" resurection idea but I will really need the two NPCs to introduce them to the next adventure. And, if the necromancer would be level 5 he would certainly trash the party and I would only get nasty, cold stares from my soon to be ex-friends. Thanks for all so far. Any more Ideas? |
