| nytemare370105-23-07, 04:46 PM | A player of mine has decided to play a chaotic evil dread necro, in a party of good characters. Rather than cause group tension (most of the other players are new), I placed him as the BBEG. He will plan out ways to kill the other PCs and I will act them out using his minions. this is an online game so he has a seperate room to inform me of his decisions. Just thought I would share the idea, and get some feedback :) |

Just thought I would share the idea, and get some feedback :) I can tell you most of the feedback is going to be some variation of PvP is bad, leads to disrupted games and so forth. Of course if done that way that wouldn't make sense as it's likely to seem it's just another villain of yours. As for the idea itself, I think it rather amusing and may use it myself in the near future. |
| Vharuck05-23-07, 04:55 PM | I'd not like it simply because I would be reduced to playing out minion fodder as a DM. But if you can make it work and have fun (I guess you still get to be in control of third parties), then more power to you! |
| nytemare370105-23-07, 05:05 PM | I was never a fan of thinking up BBEG plans, and the player is highly intelligent. On a side note, that same character did something unthinkable. He rolled all 18s yes they were witnessed rolls. yes they were completely random no they weren't fudged. |
| darkdragonk05-23-07, 05:09 PM | Damn good luck for him, most i've ever rolled was 3 18s Did this, it was awsome, players have to be good sports. |
| Onikani05-23-07, 05:22 PM | they were rolling 10d6 drop the lowest 7. :) |

He rolled all 18s yes they were witnessed rolls. yes they were completely random no they weren't fudged. And why wouldn't he? After all, the probability is a paltry 1/10,077,696. I witness that level of rarity when I wash my underwear. |
| nytemare370105-23-07, 05:26 PM | oh, forgot to mention, it was a 4d6 drop lowest |
| Onikani05-23-07, 05:28 PM | oh, forgot to mention, it was a 4d6 drop lowest, then add 5 Fixed it for you. :) Seriously though, are you sure this guy didn't use weighted dice? Or a hack on an online roller so he could (non)randomly get those stats? |
| Karui_Kage05-23-07, 05:39 PM | Outright BBEGs can be bad, and lead to party disruption/bad feelings out of game. Subtle ones though, can be fun. I had an experience where I played a Rakshasa (Savage Species progression) in a party of Good/Neutral characters. The DM let me take a feat early on that gave me some protection against Detect Evil, and for the limited Alter Self I just kept myself covered in a mask/cloak most of the time. Part of the character. To the other players, I was a human (or half-elf?) rogue/sorcerer. This worked for the spell progression, and most of the other abilities. The DM knew what rolls to add/subtract to when I rolled them, and it worked out well. The key was this. My goal was to help the party, assist them in their progression. As a rakshasa, the end result would be to wait until these PCs were high levels (20, I think), then find a way to convert them/force them to become evil and subserviant. This would take place after the campaign was done, as an intro to the next one we played, where all our former characters were now villains. In game though, I was a helpful LN rogue/sorc. For some abilities, the higher bluff and such, was explained by my unique weapon (in this case, a dagger). That was just part of the DM's thing (everyone got a special weapon/armor/something), a lot of ways can be used to explain this. In the end, you can be a BBEG PC, but do not try to cause party strife. This should be a mechanic used for end game, after the campaign is over, etc. Ideally, while in game, you should be doing your best to maintain party happiness, and not get anyone angry. Having your character taken controlled of/killed by an NPC is one thing, but it is another thing entirely when its by another player. My two CP. |
| nytemare370105-23-07, 06:55 PM | The Chaotic Evil Dread Necro has two custom feats that REALLY mess with him: Schizophrenia: Whenever you roll a natural 1 on a will save, or fail it by more than 5, A complete opposite version of yourself manifests (making him Lawful Good). Egomaniac: You MUST be the center of attention. If any living sentient being ignores you completely, you must make a will save (dc 15+level of creature) or attempt to kill it. He is currently "stuck" in his lawful good form, and running a merchant caravan. Oh, and he's unliving, a fun template i created. Unliving Through use of Negative energy spells, and certain profane rituals, a character becomes an almost living, almost dead being. The unliving template may be applied to any corporeal living being. Unliving have a personal Desecrate spell, granting the bonuses of the same name. If an Unliving has a prominent shrine to their god as part of their body, bonuses double, as per desecrate. If an Unliving comes into physical contact with a holy symbol of any other faith, the Negative energy in their body is disrupted, and they fall comatose until the symbol is removed. An unliving has all undead traits except the immunities to critical hits and massive damage, as well as energy drain and ability drain. |
